I’m not sure if I’m just getting old or what but this past week was insanely hot on the water but it did not effect the bite. The trout and snook have been chewing well with the redfish getting in the mix as well. The bait continues to be plentiful throughout the waters of New Smyrna Beach. The trout and snook have been receptive to both live bait and artificial early in the morning. The bite seems to be slowing down by mid morning so getting out early has been the key. Plugs , spoons and soft plastics have been working good for redfish and trout as well as live finger mullet, pin fish and pigfish. The tarpon have been hit or miss this past week and have been very selective to when and what they want to eat. It looks like the weather will continue to be toasty for a while so I guess I just need to get use to it. 😂

This past weeks weather conditions have been extremely hot with highs in the mid 90’s. We have been getting a little cool down in the afternoon with showers continuing into the evening. The fish are starting to react to the hotter water temps by slowing their bite down by mid morning. We have continued to bring several different species boat side like snook, trout and redfish. Look for the flats and shorelines holding bait early in the morning. Targeting these shorelines with either live or artificial baits will be key to getting those bites whether it’s the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach or Mosquito Lagoon.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite has been staying steady throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters. We have been boating several different species the last couple of weeks. The bait has really moved into the backwaters in good numbers this past week. Target the bait pods early with plugs and spoons. As the day moves on move to the edges of the flats throwing soft plastics or live bait. The redfish, snook and trout have all been chewing well and the occasional tarpon has been making an appearance as well. Looks like the weather will continue to be good though next week so the fishing should continue to be good as well.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 This past week and weekend was a little crazy on the water in New Smyrna Beach. To say it was a busy 4th of July on the water would be a understatement. Even with the increase of traffic on the water we still stayed on a good bite bringing several redfish and trout boat side. The weather conditions this past week were not allowing us to do to much sight fishing due to rain and clouds. We focused on the bait pods and edges for the majority of our bites. We also played with some tarpon this past week as well jumping a couple. Plugs have been working well early in the morning and then moving to live bait as the sun gets higher. It looks like we will have a little more weather this coming week but should clear out by the end of the week making for some good fishing in the near future.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite has been good these past couple of weeks with several different species coming boat side. This is the time of year when you can put your hands on almost every inshore species to be caught in Central FL. I literally had a client last week boat redfish, trout, snook, and a tarpon to kick all in a morning. Look for the redfish and trout in the shallows early in the morning in and around the bait pods.
The snook have been holding in the deeper water in and around structure. The tarpon have been in and around the waters of New Smyrna Beach . The best chance with the tarpon are early in the morning as when the sun gets higher they tend to get lock jaw. We have also had a lot of bait moving through Mosquito Lagoon and as you know where you find bait you will find game fish. Plugs and soft plastics have been working well early in the morning as to moving to sub walks and spoons later in the day. Live bait like pin fish, shrimp , pig fish and mullet has also been working well . Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 |
