The weather here in New Smyrna Beach has been hit or miss the past couple of weeks. We have had wind, rain and even some cooler temperatures than usual. The fish have been cooperating well with the drastic weather changes. We have been bringing good numbers of redfish and trout boat side along with the occasional black drum and snook in the mix. Listening to the weather mans forecast for the upcoming week seems to be promising for a more stable weather conditions but we all know what happens when we listen to the weather man.

The fishing through out the Lagoon system has been good over all from New Smyrna Beach south through Mosquito Lagoon. There was a couple days last week that they made us work a little harder than usual but that's fishing. I feel that it's a little late in the season to be saying this but we just had a mild cold front come through bringing strong winds with it. The forecast is showing the winds laying down by mid week along with warmer temps should continue to show improvement on the bite. Before the front we were having good success on both artificial and live bait through out the Lagoon system.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite has been good this past before the fronts that have moved through. The redfish were chewing steady on both live bait and artificial. They are still not super aggressive so subtle movements is a must. The trout bite has also been good as well with several coming boat side. Soft plastics and plugs have been working well along with live finger mullet. I have also noticed the blue fish have worked there way inshore as well and they make for a great fight on light tackle. We still have some schools of black drum scattered from New Smyrna Beach south through Mosquito Lagoon. Another species that has made there appearance in large numbers is Micky the Manatee. This past week I have seen a lot of groups holding in the running lanes so please be very careful while navigating to you fishing destination.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 This is starting to sound like a broken record but the winds can settle down anytime now. Last week we had a front move through bringing with a little cooler weather and a whole lot of wind but we still got them to chew. The water clarity is still good and the bait is still hanging around. The redfish and trout have both been swimming with the bait pods. We have brought several boat side using both artificials and live baits. On the windy days the ADL spoons have worked great to pluck them out of the sand holes. There is also a good number of black drum schools holding between New Smyrna and south Mosquito Lagoon. Live shrimp and crab imitations have worked best to trick these guys. I'm looking forward to the weeks to come with the fishing only to get better. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 Click on an image to expand.
