Spring time seems to be upon us here in Central Florida. The weather has been starting to warm and bringing on a new pattern for our fish. The bait has started to move out of the deeper channels and onto the shallow grass flats and the fish have followed. Look for the redfish and trout to be milling around in the shallow grass looking for an easy meal.
The black drum have been holding on the mud and sand bottoms looking for crustaceans like shrimp and crabs. North in the New Smyrna area there has been a variety of fish holding in and around the mangroves like snook , redfish, trout , jacks and flounder to mention a few. They have all been chewing well on both artificials and live bait and as the weather continues to warm the bite will only get better. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394

The weather has been awesome this past week with some chamber of commerce Central Florida conditions . With this great weather has also brought a great bite through out the waters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon.
The clear skies and calm mornings has produced some great sight fishing for redfish, trout and black drum. The pods of bait have moved on to the flats and the fish have followed. Look for the bait pods and the fish will not be far. Plugs , spoons, soft plastics and live bait have all been working well. It looks as though the weather will continue for a bit so the bite should only get better. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 This past week has been a little on the breezy side making it a little challenging on the sight fishing but challenge excepted. We have been doing well on redfish, snook and trout and it looks as though the weather is going to continue through this week so I do not see the bite changing.
The bait has worked its way from the creeks out to the shallows and the redfish and trout have followed . The snook are still hanging in the deeper water around structure throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters. Live shrimp , cut bait and finger mullet have been working well along with a variety of artificial’s . The extended forecast looks good coming into next week which will only increase the bite. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 Just when I thought the fronts were finished here in the Central FL area there seems to be another traveling across the south this week. It doesn’t look like the temps are going to drop drastically but it will bring some gusty conditions for a couple of days.
With this front being on the minor side the bite should continue to stay strong throughout the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters. The shallow flats have been full of life with bait pods and fish milling around in and out the pot holes. They have been receptive to both artificial and live bait making for a good variety of baits to use. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 |
