After this recent cold front that has passed through the fishing has been really good. The water clarity is excellent and the sight fishing has been great. I have seen great numbers of redfish from the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach south through out Mosquito Lagoon. The trout have been plenty full as well especially in Mosquito Lagoon ,but with the cooler water temps they have been a little sluggish and not feeding aggressively.

The recent cold fronts moving through New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon have done wonders for the water clarity. I know that it’s a little aggravating dealing with the winds that come with the fronts but the benefits are worth dealing with. The sight fishing has been good and only expected to get better over the next few months. With the water temps dropping look for trout and redfish to be holding in the sand holes through out Mosquito Lagoon and on the mud flats around the New Smyrna Beach area. The sheep head have also started to work their way onto the flats as well and the black drum are also making an appearance too. Live shrimp or artificial’s have been the go to baits lately along with the occasional finger mullet.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The cooler weather has definitely been helping with the water clarity from Mosquito Lagoon north through the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach. I managed to get a few trips in between the recent fronts and the bite has been good. The redfish have been tailing very well in Mosquito Lagoon making it great for sight fishing. We have also had a good trout bite up north through out New Smyrna. I believe the bite will only continue to get better as the water temps keep lowering with these small fronts.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 We had a little Artic blast come through this past week and it brought some good to Mosquito Lagoon. The water cooled down and cleared up in some areas and sent the redfish into a good feeding mood. Unfortunately the cooler weather did not stick around but for a couple of days. But have no fear because it looks like New Smyrna Beach and the rest of Central FL is about to receive another cold front. Look for the fish to turn on after the front passes through and the winds lay down.
