The recent cold fronts have triggered prime winter fishing conditions across Central Florida waters. Water temperatures have dropped significantly, pushing fish into predictable winter patterns and creating excellent sight-fishing opportunities.
Speckled trout, redfish, and black drum are transitioning from grass flats to sand and mud bottoms in search of warmer water. Snook, particularly sensitive to temperature changes, have moved to deeper holes and channels where they find thermal refuge. This concentration of fish makes for exciting target-rich environments. Then water level has been this past week due to some easterly winds and full moon tide swing. The bite was still steady while focusing on the areas that were holding bait worked the best.
As we get back to a normal tide swing this week I foresee the bite continuing to get better and with a possible cool front moving in by mid week should help as well. Spoons, soft plastics and live bait have all been working well along with cut bait also. Contact us today to plan your Mosquito Lagoon or New Smyrna Beach fishing charter! Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 Here we are into mid November and still with highs near 90 and the possibility of a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. But with all the craziness of weather the bite continues to be strong throughout the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters.
We continue to have plenty of bait on the flats making for an abundance of life . Artificials and live bait have both been working well making for an enjoyable time catching fishing on the water. The weather looks to be stable moving into the weekend and then possible storms mid week depending on approaching storm. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The fishing continues to stay strong throughout Mosquito Lagoon and the backwaters of New waters of New Smyrna Beach . We have been dealing with some isolated showers the last few days but it has not affected the bite.
The weather looks to be stable into the weekend making for some great fishing days. The bait continues to flood the flats with a lot of life in and around the bait pods. Plugs early and then moving to spoons and soft plastics have been working well along with a variety of live bait like pinfish, finger mullet and shrimp. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite has been a little inconsistent this past week . We still have an influx of fresh water draining into the intracoastal and Mosquito Lagoon . The bait is still plentiful throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. The fish are still there but just a little scattered so you have to put your time in to locate them , but they are definitely chewing when you find them. They have been receptive to both live bait and artificials .
If we can get a cool front to move through in the next week or so it will really get these fish fired up as of right now they’re still kinda in limbo of a summer time pattern or a Fall pattern. The weather looks to be the same into the weekend but we have a little chance of a front next week. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 We have definitely had some strange weather this first part of October. Central Florida gets hammered by Hurricane Milton causing a major inconvenience with flooding , trees down and power outages across the state. Then immediately after Milton the first cold front of the season dipped into Central Florida as well. Fortunately we were only down for a couple of days here at Spot N Tail Charters .
We hit the water where we left off before the storm with fish in a little different pattern but did not take long to get back on them. The bait is plentiful through out New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. look for the pods of bait holding on the grass and bars and the fish will not be far. Live bait and artificials have both been working well these past few days. The weather looks to be stable for the upcoming week making for a good time on the water. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 This week has been a let’s prepare for Hurricane Milton to come and whip our butts here in FL. Prior to Milton showing the bite was good and I foresee the bite being just as good after the storm passes. Typically, the fish chew really well after large storms like hurricanes and tropical storms as long as you can get out on the water safely.
I pray for the west coast of Florida as they are taking it on the chin from a category 4 hurricane but just like we always do here in Florida we will build back even better. The great news is that the weather looks great after the passing of Milton which will make more comfortable fishing weather. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues to be strong through out the waters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. We still have great numbers of bait fish scattered near shore and inshore providing a food source for all the game fish. Look for schools of bait holding on and around the shell beds to the north and grass flats to the south.
Targeting the bait schools will produce the bites from red fish and trout to snook and jacks . They have been chewing well in live bait like pin fish and finger mullet but the artificial has also been creating bite as well. It looks as though we have a low pressure moving in later this week into the weekend so that should be really good just before it arrives. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The water has started to get back to normal levels after last weeks full moon tides and abundance of rain. The bite continues to be good throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and the flats of Mosquito Lagoon. Look for the pods of bait working across the flats and the game fish will not be far. As you head further north look for the structure as in the shore lines and oyster beds.
There has been a variety of species like redfish, trout, snook and jacks holding on the structure. Spoons , plugs and soft plastics have been working well along with live bait. It looks like we have an approaching storm system coming out of the Gulf that should be here the latter part of this week . So the West Coast will need to hunker down but looks like us on the East Coast are going to get more wind and rain for a couple of days. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite has been a little challenging this past week with the full moon phase. Between the influx of rain over the past couple of weeks and the stronger tide swings from the full moon we have had a lot of water throughout the New Smyrna Beach backwaters and Mosquito Lagoon. The fish are still there and ready to eat but just takes a little more effort to locate them as they have new areas to explore with higher water.
Search baits like plugs and spoons have been working well when targeting the large pods of bait that are scattered across the flats. Live bait has also been doing the trick to keep a consistent bite as well. As we get through this full moon phase the water levels should start to get back to normal and the bite will only get better. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 |
