The bait has really started to move into the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. With the influx of bait it’s made for some great fishing these past weeks and should continue to stay good. The bite has been early in the mornings and late evenings when the water temperatures are cooler. Look for trout and redfish cruising the flats and shorelines among the bait pods. Plugs , soft plastics and spoons have been working well for artificials. Finger mullet, pigfish , pin fish and cut bait have been some go to live bait choices. The snook, tarpon and jacks have been throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and will continue to hold around and in the deeper sloughs and structured shorelines.

The bait has finally started to show up here in the New Smyrna Beach area making for some good bites. The water temps are starting to rise just like the air temps making for a better early morning and late evening bite. Look for the redfish and trout cruising the shallows early then moving to the drop offs as the sun gets higher. The snook and tarpon have been making some appearances early as well, then slowing down when the sun gets higher in the sky. It looks like the summer time fish patterns are in full affect . Not only are the fish patterns in full swing but the summer time weather patterns are as well with afternoon thunderstorms everyday.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The summer heat has definitely arrived here in New Smyrna Beach. With the summer weather comes the summer bite. Starting early and ending early is the key as the water temperatures rise quickly this time of year. With the hotter water temps the fish tend to slow down through mid day and get more active early and later as the temps start to cool. The bait has started to show up throughout the Mosquito Lagoon area giving our redfish, trout and snook plenty of food source. Targeting the shallow flats early with both live bait and artificials has been working well then moving to the deeper ledges as the morning moves on.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 I hope everyone had a safe and happy Memorial Day. I would like to thank all of our service men and women for what they do and have done to protect our great nation. It was definitely hot this past week and it looks like the extreme heat is here to stay. With the summer weather brings a different style of fishing along with a pretty good bite. As the water starts to warm the bites will be more directed to the morning’s and evenings as those are the cooler times of the day.
They have been chewing both live bait and artificials throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters. Pig fish, shrimp , pin fish and mullet have been working good. Plugs, soft plastics and spoons have also been getting the job done as well. The bite in Mosquito Lagoon has also been pretty steady with a decent amount of bait starting to show up on the flats. As the bait continues to show look at targeting the pods early on the shallows and then moving to the drop offs as the day moves on. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 |
