The bite continues in the New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach waters. We have been targeting several different species from redfish and trout to snook and black drum. Although the temperatures have been pretty toasty this past week it hasn’t stopped the bite. Both artificial’s and live bait have been working well especially early morning. By mid morning moving over to live bait has been the ticket as the fish start to move to deeper water off the flats.
We still have plenty of bait scattered through Mosquito Lagoon and the backwaters of New Smyrna which continues to hold fish in the area . Targeting the bait pods early has been successful for both redfish and trout. The up coming week looks to be the same weather pattern as what we have had so the bite should continue to be strong . We have definitely entered our early summer time pattern here in the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach. Look for the bait to be plentiful throughout the flats and the fish not too far. Working plugs and spoons early in the morning has been creating and steady bite then moving to soft plastics later in the day .live finger mullet and cut bait have also been working well on both the redfish and trout with a little patience. The weather looks to be very stable for the upcoming week which should just secure the bite.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues to be steady throughout the waters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. The bait has been plentiful scattered both in the backwaters and on the flats. Look for the trout, redfish and snook in and around the bait pods. Both artificial and live bait have been working well.
Plugs and spoons early then moving to soft plastics backed up by some some live shrimp or mullet as well. The wind has definitely been a force to play with this past week but it has also allowed the fish to not be on edge making it easier to get shots on them. The weather looks to be good for the most part this up coming week which should just reassure the bite. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The waters throughout the New Smyrna Beach area have been alive with activity this past week. My clients have been boating redfish, trout and black drum several different ways. We have caught them along the deeper shorelines in the backwaters of New Smyrna and also sight fishing them in the shallows of Mosquito Lagoon. The weather has been consistent making for a good bite and looks to continue through the weekend. Both artificial and live bait have been working well . Targeting the bait pods have been working well both on the flats and along the bars.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues to be good throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and south into Mosquito Lagoon. The water level has lowered quite a bit bringing a lot of the fish out of the ditches and on to the flats into schools and small groups.
We have been targeting black drum, redfish , snook and trout this past week and the weather has been great for it. Clear skies and clean water has produced the perfect storm of a bite. February is usually always a great month to sight fish and by the looks of it , I do not think it’s going to disappoint this year as well as we have been on a great bite so far. Contact us today to book your New Smyrna Beach or Mosquito Lagoon fishing charter. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite has been good the last couple of weeks with a couple days in there where we had to work for it. With the same weather pattern continuing into next week I see it continuing to stay good. The water clarity in and around the New Smyrna Beach area has been great this past month. Both the beach and the backwaters of New Smyrna have been producing bites in and around the bait pods. Live bait and artificials have both been working well early in the mornings.
As the sun gets higher and the day gets hotter the bite has started to slow down. The bite in Mosquito Lagoon has also been good in the early mornings. The fish can found in the shallows early and then moving off the flats to deeper ledges as the day moves on. The same as the New Smyrna area , targeting bait pods with live or artificial baits has been the key. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The fishing in and around the New Smyrna Beach waters has been good and should not be slacking off anytime soon. We have had variety of fish both in the intracoastal and the backwaters of Mosquito Lagoon. Look for jacks , tarpon and several other species cruising in the bait pods throughout the intracoastal. The shallow water bite has also been good with several snook, redfish and trout coming boat side this past week. The bait has been plentiful from New Smyrna south through Mosquito Lagoon allowing easy meals for game fish. Live bait has been working well and matching the hatch has been even better. Plugs and spoons have also been getting the job done in the early mornings but has been slowing down on artificial as the water starts to warm later in the day. The forecast for the next week looks to be good so the bite should continue to be good.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The weather has seemed to settle down a bit this week getting back into the 70’s during the day. The water temps are going to take a little while to get back to normal making for some lethargic fish for a few days. Patience and slower presentations will be the key for the next week or so. Shrimp and small soft plastics have been working well early and later in the day moving to a spoon or cut bait as the water starts to warm. Look for the bite to only get better as the week moves on. The water clarity is making for some great sight fishing for drum, redfish , trout and even snook. Lighter leader material will help out greater for those spookier fish in the shallows on a extremely clear day.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The fish in the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters got a little shell shocked this week. With the passing of this recent cold front it has brought the air temps and water temps down quite a bit. It takes a few days for the fish to adjust and get into their winter time patterns. It looks like we will have a reassuring front later this week which should lock our fish into their winter time pattern bringing back a consistent bite. In these cooler temps finger mullet and shrimp have been the go to baits. Look for trout, redfish and black drum in the shallows throughout the day gathering warmth from the mud or sand bottom. The snook and mangrove snapper have been holding in the deeper waters looking for a easy meal.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The weather this past week or so for the holidays was definitely warmer than expected but made for some great outdoor activities. We had quite a bit of boat traffic throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters and Mosquito Lagoon over the holiday week. The fishing has continued to stay strong with several species coming boat side. We have had a little front come in to town to cool things down a bit which will only make the bite that much better. The shallow water bite for redfish, black drum and snook has been working well with artificials and live bait. Soft plastics , spoons and plugs have been working well and live finger mullet and live shrimp just as good. Looks like the weather should be stable for the few days making for the bite to continue to be strong.
