The bite continues to hold strong throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters. We have been boating several different species over the past couple of weeks including redfish, trout, and snook. The bite has been better on live bait over artificials the las couple of weeks. Pin fish , pig fish and finger mullet have been doing the trick. Plugs and top water baits have been working well early before the water temps warm up then moving to a spoon or soft plastic later in the day. I do not see a change in the bite over the next few weeks as long the weather stays stable in the tropics and with that being said let’s keep our fingers crossed for no storms .

We have hit that time of year where the tropics start to get fired up with storms. Here in New Smyrna Beach we definitely keep a eye on the radar for approaching tropical storms and hurricanes. We have already had one scoot by the south of us so fingers crossed we can make it another year without a hit. The bite has been good in both Mosquito Lagoon and New Smyrna Beach area with several species making it boat side this past week. The trout have been chewing well throughout Mosquito Lagoon along with some redfish mixed in as well. Look for bait pods early in the shallows and as the water temps heat up move to the edges of the flats. Plugs, plastics, live shrimp , pig fish and mullet have all been working well. You can find a variety of species in the backwaters of New Smyrna at the moment. We have been boating snook, jacks, trout and redfish along with the occasional tarpon. Live shrimp and finger mullet have been working well but plugs, spoons and soft plastics on a jig head work as well. Looks like the weather will be stable into the weekend so get on the water and enjoy.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues to be steady throughout the New Smyrna Beach back waters. The bait has started to move in good numbers and the trout have followed. Look for the trout and redfish in and around the pot holes throughout Mosquito Lagoon. They have been hanging out with the schools of mullet and feeding early. The snook and tarpon are still in good numbers further north throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach. They have also been chewing early and both live bait and artificials have been working well. It looks like we could have some weather coming into the Central Fl area over the weekend so pack your rain gear it may get wet.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 As we are officially in the dog days of summer here in New Smyrna Beach the fishing still continues to be good. The key to success has been getting on the water early. The bite has been slacking off by mid morning especially in Mosquito Lagoon. The water temps in the shallows have been reaching the mid 80’s by late morning causing the fish to slow movements. The pattern continues to be find the bait pods and the fish will follow. The redfish and trout have been hanging with the bait pods on the shallow flats early then moving to deeper water later in the morning. The snook, jacks and tarpon continue to patrol the deeper water around structure looking for a opportunity to feed. This pattern should continue for the next couple of months at least .
