I believe summer has officially arrived to New Smyrna Beach this past week. We have had a heat index of 100 degrees across Central FL. Mosquito Lagoon water temps have also risen making for a tough bite later in the day. We have been getting a early start and having a great bite from New Smyrna Beach south through Mosquito Lagoon. Targeting redfish first thing and then moving to trout later in the morning has been working well. The snook bite has not been bad as well you just need to have some moving water to get them active. The tarpon are in good numbers through out New Smyrna and have been feeding better at early morning and late evenings.

I believe the rainy season has hit us here in New Smyrna Beach. I’m pretty sure it has rained everyday on Mosquito Lagoon this past week. On the brighter side it has kept the water temps a little cooler through out the New Smyrna Beach area. The bait can still be found in good numbers through out Mosquito Lagoon and were you find bait you find game fish. The red fish have been chewing early and slowing down as the morning moves on. The trout and snook have been chewing as well and prefer moving water for a better bite.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 I believe the summer time weather pattern is in full swing here in New Smyrna Beach. We are getting our typical afternoon thunderstorms which seems to be dumping a good amount of rain at times. The storms have not phased the bite on Mosquito Lagoon. We have been bringing great numbers of trout and redfish boat side this past week. I have fished north in the New Smyrna Beach area one day and the south Mosquito Lagoon the next and the bite has been just as good at both. There is still a large amount of bait through out the New Smyrna Beach area which has been keeping the bite on the good side as well. The jacks, tarpon, snook, redfish and trout have all been taking their shots at the bait pods moving through the area.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The trout bite has been strong in the New Smyrna Beach area along with a few nice snook in the mix as well. Mosquito Lagoon has had a little bit better redfish bite early and then slowing down as the heat of the day approaches. I have also seen a good number of Tarpon through the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon area also. It seems as thought the hot summer days are upon us so stay cool.
