The weather has been a little crazy here in Central FL from hot to cool to calm and to windy all with in a week and a half. It has not effected the bite just how to catch them and where to find them. Plugs, spoons and live finger mullet have been working well.
We currently have an influx of water throughout the New Smyrna Beach backwaters and Mosquito Lagoon area which has the fish more spread out. This is where the plugs and spoons work great for a search bait as well as the finger mullet. It looks like we will be getting a cool front coming in over the weekend which will shift the winds again. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394

The bite throughout the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters has been good this past week both before and after our cool front. We continue to have a good number of bait holding on the flats and the backwaters making for easy meals for our game fish.
Spoons , plugs and soft plastics have all been working well along with finger mullet and shrimp for live bait. It looks like we are on a warming trend heading into the latter part of the week which will continue to increase the bite. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 We have had a little change in the weather over the past few days with some cooler dryer air moving in. With this cooler dryer air has brought a North / Northeast wind that has continued to raise the water levels in the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon area. The fish are still around and continue to be mixed in with the bait, the only difference is with the influx of water they have spread out a bit. With the fish spread out a bit covering water has been the key to get bit.
Targeting windward shorelines covered in bait has been working well and they have been receptive to both live and artificial baits. It looks like we have a little rain in our future and some returning warmer weather over the next week so enjoy the cool down while it’s here. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 We have had some strange weather for the past week making it difficult to fish with wind , rain and high water but it has not stopped us from catching. I said it was difficult not impossible, we have had to run around a little bit trying to stay dry and then getting the wind to our backs looking for the pods of bait pushed up on the flats was where the majority of the fish were found. We were catching both redfish and trout holding in and around the bait pods throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. The water has become higher due to the NE winds over this past week allowing these fish some new feeding opportunities so definitely look in places that usually has little to no water that is holding bait. It looks as though this weather system will be settling down by the end of the week which will make a good bite only better.
