We have definitely entered our summer time pattern here in New Smyrna Beach with hot summer days and afternoon showers. The bite has been good early and tapering off as the day moves on. We have been boating a mixed bag of species from trout, redfish and jacks to snook and the occasional tarpon. Mosquito Lagoon has been holding a lot of bait over the past couple of weeks which has produced a good trout bite. Further north in the New Smyrna Beach area we have had a good redfish , snook and jack bite. Focus on the structure on a out going tide. Both artificials and live bait have been working well to create a bite.

The fishing continues to be good throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters. This is such a great time of year to fish East Central Florida with all the species we currently have inshore makes for great opportunities. The trout bite has been great in Mosquito Lagoon along with the redfish. We have also been boating some nice snook, jacks and airing the occasional tarpon in the New Smyrna Beach backwaters. The bite has been slowing down by mid morning with the heat of the day shutting it down . Plugs and top waters early and switching to a spoon after the sun is up has been a good choice. Live bait from shrimp to mullet has been a good choice as well. We still have a lot of bait scattered through out the backwaters and the bite should continue stay good.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The fishing here in New Smyrna Beach has been hot as the weather. We have been having several double digit days this past week with a mixed bag of species. The trout bite has been steady throughout Mosquito Lagoon along with the redfish as well. We have also had several schools of jacks cruising the shallows of the lagoon as well. Look for the bait holding on the flats either up north around New Smyrna or down south in the lagoon and you will find the fish. Start out early with plugs and surface baits then moving to spoons and soft plastics later in the day. The bite has definitely started to slack off a little bit as the afternoon approaches and I believe a lot has to do with water temps so get out early.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues to be good throughout the New Smyrna Beach area. We have been bringing several species boat side from redfish and trout to snook and jacks. The bait still continues to be in large numbers across Mosquito Lagoon. Targeting the bait pods early has been the trick and then moving out to the deeper water as the day warms up has been a good choice as well. Live bait and artificial’s both have been working well and now that the holiday weekend has past the boat traffic should continue to slow down as well.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The fishing still continues to be good throughout the New Smyrna Beach area. We have been bringing several different species boat side this week from trout and redfish to snook and jacks. We still have large schools of bait in and around Mosquito Lagoon along with bait pods off the beach as well. The bite has been good early and then tapering off as the day goes on. Target the bars and flats early then as the sun gets a little higher move to the ledges and drop offs. With all the people coming to New Smyrna Beach this weekend be careful both on and off the water.
