The recent rain fall has been a hidden blessing throughout the Central Florida Backwaters this past week . The rain has actually cooled the shallow waters of Mosquito Lagoon along with the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach making the fish more active though the day. The snook ,jacks and tarpon have been pretty active in the intracoastal from Daytona Beach south to Mosquito Lagoon focusing on the bait pods along the structure and deeper edges. Moving south into New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon you can find a great trout , redfish and black drum bite on the shallow flats. Live bait and artificials have been working well especially with the recent water cool down. It looks as though we will continue with the occasional afternoon rain through next which will continue to cool down the shallows.

The fishing from Daytona Beach south through Mosquito Lagoon has been firing on all cylinders this past week . We have been boating great numbers of redfish , trout , snook and black drum . The snook , jacks and tarpon have been working the deeper shorelines through Daytona Beach and into The backwaters of New Smyrna Beach . Plugs , soft plastics and live bait have all been working well to trigger a bite . The black drum , redfish and trout can also be found throughout the waters of New Smyrna Beach and in the shallows of Mosquito Lagoon.

The drum have been working the shallow mud bottoms as the trout and redfish are mixed in with the bait super shallow on the grass flats. Plugs , spoons and soft plastics early in the morning have been working well. Moving over to live bait as the sun gets higher and the water warms has been working out well . It looks as though we will continue to get our summer time afternoon showers moving into next week but the bite should continue to stay strong.

The bite continues to stay strong throughout the waters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon . We have had some breezy conditions this past week but it has actually been a blessing as it has got the water moving and keep it cooler on the water . The snook and Jack bite has been good in the deeper waters around Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach.

Live bait and artificials have been working well to to catch both while targeting structure and bait pods . Mosquito Lagoon has been also producing a great bite with redfish , trout and black drum as the targeted species. Once again live bait and artificials have been doing the trick on the shallow grass flats . It looks as though we will be getting a percentage of rain into the weekend and early next week which will help cool water temps down a bit.

The word for the week here in the New Smyrna Beach area has been hot , not only has the weather been hot but the bite has been as well . We have getting our standard afternoon summer thunderstorms this past week which looks as though it will continue into next week as well . These storms are not a bad thing as they are cooling the water temperature’s throughout the shallow water of Mosquito Lagoon and backwaters of New Smyrna Beach .

The deep water bite throughout the intracoastal of Daytona Beach has been steady with a mix bag of species chewing . Moving southward into New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon the bait has been plentiful in the backwaters and on the shallow flats . Look for the pods of bait early as the fish have been fairly shallow until the sun gets higher.

As the sun gets higher moving to the deeper edges have been working well for all species like trout , redfish , black drum and others . Live bait and artificials have been working well throughout the day. Plugs and spoons early then moving to soft plastics later in the morning. Live bait like finger mullet, pinfish and shrimp have all been a go to bait for bites.

With the temperatures reaching in the 90’s here in the New Smyrna Beach area it has been making for some toasty afternoons. However the weather has not been the only hot item in New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon . The bite has been just as hot as our afternoons, with several species coming boat boat side this past week . We have been targeting redfish , trout, snook and the occasional tarpon from Daytona Beach south through the Mosquito Lagoon.

Focusing on the pods of bait that are spread out through the backwaters has been working well . You can find great numbers of bait pods flowing down the intracoastal waters of Daytona through the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and scattered across the shallow grass flats of Mosquito Lagoon. These game fish have been moving in and around these bait fish looking for an easy meal.

Artificials have been working well early in the morning then moving to live bait as the sun gets a little higher and water starts to warm . It looks as though the up coming week is calling for some drier conditions with a little less rain chance which will increase water temperatures in the shallows . If that is the case focus on deeper ledges and grass as the sun gets higher and the water starts to warm.

The New Smyrna Beach weather has been hot and so has the bite . This past week has been a steady bite from Daytona Beach south through Mosquito Lagoon . We have had several slams this past week with snook , redfish and trout . The shallow water bite in Mosquito Lagoon seems to be good early then as the heat of the day comes it’s starts to slack a bit.

The bite in the New Smyrna Beach waters has seemed to stay consistent with deeper moving water . The storms have been holding off until the afternoon and looks as the forecast is calling for the same into next week . The artificial bite has been ok early but the live bait bite seems to be more consistent at the moment.

The bite from Daytona Beach south to Mosquito Lagoon including New Smyrna Beach has been firing on all cylinders this past week . We have had multiple days with slams along with some double digit days. With the lack of rain and shifting winds the water level throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon have been pretty low making navigation of some areas challenging. The flats and shorelines have been thriving with life from all the bait that has moved in . Water clarity has not  been great in the northern Lagoon making sight fishing a little hard at times. The artificial bite has been good early morning and then moving to live bait after the sun gets up has been working best . It looks as though we will continue to have some toasty conditions into next week with the occasional afternoon storms to hopefully cool the water temps a bit.

We have definitely moved into our summer time pattern here in the New Smyrna Beach area with the summer time temps and afternoon showers. The bite has continued to be good throughout the waters of Daytona Beach south through Mosquito Lagoon as the backwaters and flats are holding a lot of bait fish . Look for the pods of bait fish and the game fish will not be far . The deeper waters around Daytona and New Smyrna have been producing some good bites as well from tarpon , snook and Jacks just to mention a few. Live bait has been working best but early morning artificial can produce a bite as well . Looks as though the weather pattern will be holding into next week with afternoon showers.

The New Smyrna Beach waters have been very active this past week with some great fishing . The weather has been good and making for some great catching of several species like snook , redfish , trout and black drum . The shallow waters of Mosquito Lagoon have been just as good allowing for a wide range of fishing this past week . It looks as though we are starting to get into our summer time pattern as the temperatures start to heat up and bring the afternoon storms . As the water temperature begin to rise look for the bite to be a little better early and later evening. Live bait has been working well but they can be caught on artificial as well plugs and spoons have been doing the trick.

Summer has arrived in New Smyrna Beach with some hotter weather and even hotter fishing. We have been bringing several species boat side this past week like snook, redfish and trout to mention a few. The afternoon storms have started to make an appearance this past week and should continue through the weekend. We have been targeting the structure up north in the New Smyrna Beach backwaters for snook , trout and jacks. Moving south into Mosquito Lagoon we have been focusing on the shallow grass flats with bait. The redfish and trout have been mixed in with the bait pods. Live bait and artificials have both been working well to create a bite.
