It seems as though the start to April is starting out a little bumpy with some adverse weather conditions throughout the Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach coast . We had a few nice days to start with clear skies and  a little breeze making for some great sight fishing and catching in the Mosquito Lagoon waters . The redfish and trout have been working the shallow grass flats of Mosquito Lagoon focusing on shrimp , pinfish and mullet.

The snook and jacks have been holding in the deeper waters in and around  New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach . Focusing on structure and bait the jacks and snook have been raging havoc on shrimp and bait pods. Unfortunately we have had a low pressure move in on top of the whole state bringing rain and wind forage few days but should be moving on its way by mid week making for some great weather and fishing later in the week into the weekend.

New Smyrna Beach has had some great chamber of commerce days this past week with clear skies and plenty of sun. The fish have definitely liked the weather as well with several different species coming boat side this past week . As we start to move forward into Spring the fishing will only continue to e good.

The redfish , trout and black drum have all been working the potholes and grass flats of Mosquito Lagoon . Live bait and artificials have both been working well as live shrimp has been the go to.

The Intracoastal and backwaters of New Smyrna  Beach has also been producing a great bite with snook, redfish , jacks and trout all coming boat side . Shrimp and live finger mullet have been doing the trick while focusing on the deeper shorelines and oyster beds holding bait. The weather looks to be good for the up coming week as it seems that Spring is in full swing.

New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoons Spring time pattern is ramping up . The bite has been solid this past week and as we enter Spring it will only continue. The redfish have been happy and tailing across the shallow grass flats of Mosquito Lagoons with the trout and black drum in the mix as well . The deeper backwaters of Daytona Beach and New Smyrna beach have been producing great numbers of snook , jacks , sheepshead and other game fish. The weather looks to be good moving into next week with possible afternoon showers which is the start to that Spring /Summer time pattern.

The weather in New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach has been a little up and down this past week , with highs near 90 then dipping back down in the high 50’s. I thought we were finished with Winter but obviously Mother Nature had other plans. The good thing is that this little cold blast had no effect on the bite . The redfish , trout , black drum and even the snook have been chewing well.

Mosquito Lagoon has been thriving with bait and great numbers of fish mixed in with the bait pods as the backwaters of New Smyrna have been producing some good shoreline bites. The weather looks to be back to normal moving into the weekend and the bite should only continue to be good.

It definitely seems as though we have skipped Spring and moved right into Summer , as the highs from Daytona Beach south will be in the high 80’s near 90 this week. With the higher temperatures the water temps will start to increase throughout the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters. With the warmer water temps the bait will start to move up on the shallow flats and look for the fish to follow.

The snook and trout should start to get more active especially around the shallow structure throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach. Look for the redfish and black drum tailing in the shallows of Mosquito Lagoon closer to the grass flats and in the grass. Shrimp has been the go to bait along with smaller artificial’s like soft plastics and spoons.

The New Smyrna Beach fishing has really been ramping up this past week. The cooler temperatures have seemed to have left and the fish are happy . Looking at the extended forecast there is a lot of chamber of commerce days ahead this week and these fish are moving into their Spring time patterns. The bait pods have started to move up on the shallows of Mosquito Lagoon and the fish have followed. The trout , redfish and black drum have all been found roaming the flats and backwaters of New Smyrna looking to chew . Further north into the Daytona Beach area the oyster beds have been thriving with life from trout and redfish to the occasional flounder. They have been receptive to both live bait and artificials making for a great time on the water.

Fishing New Smyrna Beach backwaters this past week has been great with several double digit days coming boat side. The weather this past week had warmed up to the mid eighties making the fish spread out a bit looking for new food opportunities. With the clear skies , great water clarity and ambitious fish the shallow waters of Mosquito Lagoon made for some awesome sight fishing . Although we have had a little cold front move through early this week I believe these fish are definitely on the move toward their spring time patterns.

The main focus has been locating the pods of bait . If you find the bait you will find fish , whether it’s along the oyster beds throughout the Intracoastal in Daytona Beach or south on the grass flats of Mosquito Lagoon. The trout and snook have started to get active again as the water temperatures are on the rise . The redfish and black drum have not skipped a beat and continue to be  on the hunt and chewing aggressively. To for the weather to continue to fuse and the bite to stay strong looking forward to Spring time pattern.

The fishing in New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon continues to not disappoint. The weather has been a little up in down this past week with warm days, cool days and even a little rain but the fish from Daytona Beach south through Mosquito Lagoon continue to be firing on all cylinders. It looks as though we will continue to have a warm up into the weekend with another possible cool down the beginning of the week.

These fish seem to have fallen into this pattern with schools of both black drum and redfish cruising the shallows looking for a easy meal , and the snook and trout continuing to hang in and around the deeper edges. As the warm up continues into the weekend the large trout will start to move up on the shallows into the sand holes making for possible sight fishing opportunities. Small baits have been the go to’s like soft plastics , shrimp , spoons and small finger mullet have all worked well.

Warm days are ahead for this week with the overnight temperatures staying in the low 50’s. These temperatures will give our fish in the New Smyrna Beach backwaters a little break from the cold. These temperatures will give our fish a little break from the cold. These temperatures bite bite continues to be really good throughout the waters of Mosquito Lagoon and New Smyrna Beach stretching into the Daytona Beach area as well.

The redfish and black drum have been firing on all cylinders along with a steady trout bite as well. The snook still have been a little shell shocked from the cold but moving into this week I believe they will also start to turn on .the water clarity has been excellent making for some great sightfishing opportunities with both artificials and live bait. Long range forecast is showing another front moving in early next week but we will have to wait and see.

It seems as though our recent spring time weather here in the New Smyrna Beach area has gone to the wayside for upcoming week . Here in the Central Florida area we will be experiencing some much cooler conditions then this past week . This will only secure the winter time fishing pattern that they have been using this past week.

Look for the redfish and black drum to be holding over the shallows of Mosquito Lagoon as the trout and snook will be looking for the deeper waters of New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach waters. Small soft plastics along with live shrimp have been working well and extremely slow retrieves have been the key. The water clarity has been exceptional this past week and will only get better as the cool temperatures move in making for some great sight fishing.
