I can not believe that it is already Thanksgiving. It feels as though this year has just flown bye. But with Fall like weather in the air here in New Smyrna Beach brings great fishing throughout the backwaters of Mosquito Lagoon. The recent cold fronts this past week had brought the water temps down in the shallow waters of Mosquito Lagoon sending a lot of the fish to mud flats and sand holes for warmth. The same thing as the New Smyrna Beach area as well the fish could be found holding in coves or bays with a shallow mud bottom. A good choice of bait this time of year is shrimp or cut bait do to the fish are sometimes not willing to use a lot energy to feed. The water clarity has really improved throughout Mosquito Lagoon making it great for sight fishing as well. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving !

This past week was a little bit of a shocker for the fish here in Mosquito Lagoon and New Smyrna Beach area. We received a arctic blast of a cold front and water temps seemed to have dropped in Mosquito Lagoon almost fifteen degrees in just a couple of days. The one thing that the cooler temps are helping out with is the water clarity through out the New Smyrna Beach waters. The fish are now starting to get into their winter time patterns. Look for the redfish and trout to be holding on top of the mud bars and oyster beds through the back waters of New Smyrna Beach. They will also be looking for warmth as well in Mosquito Lagoon look for them to be holding over the pot holes through out the day until the water temps rise a bit. The bites will be a little slower this time of year so slow your presentations down on both artificials and live bait. Look for the bite to get even better as the windy conditions start to settle over the New Smyrna Beach area the next few days.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The weather has been great the past few days here in the New Smyrna Beach area. The water is still a lot higher then it should be for this time of year through out New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. The higher water has not effected the bite but it has effected the way you need to target them. In both the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon the fish are spread out looking at new feeding opportunities with this higher water conditions. Covering a lot of water early with plugs and spoons on and around the oyster beds in the New Smyrna Beach area has been working well. The same gos for Mosquito Lagoon but instead of oysters target the shallow bars and grass flats. I believe we will be receiving a cold front toward the end of the week which will hopefully help empty some of this water out of Mosquito Lagoon and New Smyrna Beach area and kick off our winter time pattern.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 It seemed as though Fall was upon us here in New Smyrna Beach and as fast as the crisp mornings arrived they have left again. The fish are starting to get into their fall time pattern through out Mosquito Lagoon and New Smyrna Beach waters. When conditions allow the big breeder redfish can still be targeted around the inlets and south in Mosquito Lagoon. The trout bite has been good throughout the IRL on plugs and soft plastics. The flounder and snook are still holding in the waters around New Smyrna Beach and North Mosquito Lagoon.
