Things are really heating up on the water here in the New Smyrna Beach area. We have been targeting several different species throughout the backwaters. The bait continues to be scattered across the shallow flats of Mosquito Lagoon and spreading north into the creeks. Look for the redfish , trout and jacks to be mixed in the schools of bait early to mid morning.
As the water starts to heat up they will start to move off the shallows into a little deeper water like shorelines and ledges. Plugs and spoons have been working good early as live bait has been a more consistent bite. The weather has definitely been hot so early starts has also been working out well . The weather looks good through the up coming weekend but early next week could possibly be a wash out with a possible low pressure heading toward FL . We will just have to see how the forecast pans out. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394

The temperature’s this past week have been hot to say the least reaching mid 90’s and feeling well over a hundred but with that being said that bite has been fire early morning to mid morning. We have had plenty of bait covering the shallow flats of Mosquito Lagoon along with the back waters of New Smyrna Beach.
Look for the trout , redfish and snook to be shallow early and as the day heats up they will be falling off to the edges in a little deeper water. Live bait and artificials have been both working well in the shallows and deeper shorelines. Throwing plugs early have been producing some great bites on snook, jacks and trout as moving to live bait when the sun gets up has been tricking the redfish and other species. The weather looks to be consistent into next week which means this bite should continue to be good. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 Unlike the weather here in Central Florida the bite continues to stay consistently good . We have been starting early and finishing by mid morning to beat the heat and storms that have been hitting us all week. We are continuing to bring several species boat side like trout, redfish ,snook and jacks . We still have a large amount of bait spread out through the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach south into Mosquito Lagoon. Target the bait pods early and move to the deeper edges of flats and shorelines as the sun gets higher. Plugs , soft plastics and live bait have all been working well. It looks like the weather will be continuing through next week so watch out for those pesky afternoon storms.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The summer time weather pattern is in full effect here in Central Florida with really hot days and late afternoon thunderstorms. With this pattern sitting in it has fired up the bite again with stirring things up in the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach. The bait continues to be plentiful and the fish can be found in and around the schools of bait.
We have been boating several different species like jacks , redfish, trout, snook and black drum . The secret has been find the bait find the fish and this is even more true throughout Mosquito Lagoon where the bait has also been in great numbers . This weather pattern looks to be here into next week and the fish do not seem to mind. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon have been heating up with some great fishing this past week. We have had multiple boat slams come boat side with trout , redfish and snook . We have even had the occasional flounder make an appearance. The bait continues to be spread out from Daytona Beach south into the Lagoon.
Look for the bait pods and structure as the fish will not be to far away. Early starts have been the truck lately as we have had some extremely hot days along with afternoon thunderstorms. The weather looks to be about the same heading into next week so I foresee the bite continuing to be strong. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 |
