The water conditions in the Mosquito Lagoon and New Smyrna Beach area is getting better. The water level is still quite high and clarity is not the best but it seems to be emptying slowly. The fish are still around and chewing pretty good but it does take a little effort to pin them down with the higher water.

Last weeks charters were full of catching & releasing. From Redfish to Tarpon, the bite was challenging due to the crazy high water in the lagoon, but we got it done. Here are some of the past week's catches.
Looking forward to getting you on the water! -Capt. Patrick Rood The water levels are extremely high post Irma the hurricane . The bait fish are still holding on the flats in good numbers and with that being said the trout are right there with them. The redfish have spread out taking advantage of the higher water and new feeding opportunities. I have seen several tailing fish along with some cruisers. With the higher water conditions throwing a plug early and switching to a ADL spoon later in the day is good choice.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 I'm sitting here after one day of many to come of putting things back to normal after the visit of Irma the Hurricane. I have been wrapped up in the aggravation of no gas, yard debris, lost income and etc. It has just dawned on me how lucky myself and many others are that our families and friends have scraped by this massive storm unscathed. I still have a few days of cleaning and re assembling things before heading back on the water. I do know we have had some pretty extensive dock damage along the coast which will produce a lot of floating debris so please navigate carefully. The water level is much higher than usual and will be residing slowly in the up coming days to weeks. The fish especially red fish will be taking advantage of the new food source the rising water levels has brought to them. The trout will still be holding on points and bars were the bait is trapped or moving through.
I hope everyone has made it through this storm of great magnitude with very little damage or loss. Good luck and please be safe! Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 |
