So it seems as though winter has a strong hold on us here in Central FL. The wind has been relentless on the coast in New Smyrna Beach and across the open waters of Mosquito Lagoon. The air temps have not been getting out of the low sixties for the past few days and lows in the mid forties. We have definitely had to bundle up while out on the water. It looks like we will still be dealing with the winds this week through out New Smyrna Beach but looks like air temps will start to rise later in the week. The water temps in Mosquito Lagoon are quite chilly right now forcing our trout and redfish into the sand holes and on the mud flats. As the day moves on ADL Spoons and soft plastics have been a good choice for artificials. Shrimp, mud minnows and finger mullet have been doing well on Mosquito Lagoon as well. Good luck and stay warm out there.

We have had a recent cool down this past week and looks like another front to hit us on Thursday. The last few days the wind has been howling through New Smyrna Beach and on Mosquito Lagoon. With the strong winds it has made for some difficult sight fishing on the Lagoon but we have still managed to boat a good number of redfish and trout. I’m looking forward to after this next front because I believe the weather will start to stabilize. With the cooler water temps through out the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon the trout and redfish have started to find warmth on the mud and in the pot holes.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 With the recent blast of cold air we have received here in New Smyrna Beach the winds have shifted out of the NW and the water has started to drop a bit. With low clean water through out both New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon the redfish have started to group up in good numbers. The trout have also started to really show there winter time pattern as well by holding in the sand holes looking for a easy meal. The black drum have also started to make an appearance in groups as well. It looks like we will have to deal with the wind for a couple of days but should subside later in the week and the sight fishing should be really good afterwards.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The weather has been outstanding this past week in New Smyrna Beach. We have had a couple of cool mornings but for the most part highs in the mid to lower seventies. The water clarity in the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon has been just as good. As long as the wind stays at a minimal then the sight fishing has be great. We have been seeing good numbers of both trout and redfish through out Mosquito Lagoon along with some good numbers of sheep head and flounder up north in the New Smyrna Beach area. I foresee the fishing only to get better as winter moves forward.
