The bite continues to be good throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters south into Mosquito Lagoon. We have been bringing several species boat side like redfish, trout, snook and black drum. As Spring starts to transform into summer the bite will only continue to be good. Look for the redfish and trout in the shallows early mixed in with the schools of bait. The snook and black drum have been holding along the deeper shorelines and structure. Shrimp and artificials have both been working well and as the shrimp continue to run I believe the bite will continue as well. Looks like our weather pattern has started to become steady and do not believe we will have anymore cold fronts in our future.

The weather here in New Smyrna Beach has been outstanding this past week and looks like it will continue into the near future. We have had clear skies with highs in the 80’s just like a Florida post card. The bite continues to be good with several different species coming boat side this past week along with four days straight with a slam. The sight fishing has been good with scattered redfish, trout and black drum throughout Mosquito Lagoon. Further north into the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach it’s been more of deep water structure fishing. Both live bait and artificials have been working well so it’s really coming down to preference on which to use.

We had a mild cold front pass through Central Fl bringing cool and windy conditions these past few days. It has definitely made it challenging to fish but my clients have prevailed bringing several fish boat side . We have had some good luck around structure throughout the New Smyrna Beach area. The bite in Mosquito Lagoon has been good in between the bad weather days. Look for redfish, drum and trout holding on the shallow flats and bars mixed in with the bait. Live shrimp along with spoons and soft plastics have been working well. It looks as though we have some nice weather ahead of us which should increase the bite.

As we are starting to enter Spring things are starting to change on the waters of Mosquito Lagoon. The water has started to warm and bait has started to move up on the shallow flats. The fish have started to spread out as well ,sometimes making it a little harder to pin down. It looks as though winter is not finished with us quite yet. They are calling for a cold blast this weekend bringing the lows into the possible 40’s . With the quick warm up they are calling for I do not think it will effect the fish patterns as the water temps should not dip that low. Live shrimp and finger mullet along with soft plastics have been the key this past week.

The redfish have been cooperating well and the trout have also decided to join in the fun. We still have a good number of black drum roaming the flats throughout south Mosquito Lagoon. This past week has been a little breezy making the water conditions a little murky for sight fishing. The winds do look to be subsiding over the next few days and will hopefully allow water conditions to clean back up. We have had some stronger tides this past week in the New Smyrna Beach area making it a little harder to net bait but if available finger mullet and mud minnows have been working well. Further south in Mosquito Lagoon the trout and redfish have been very receptive to soft plastics and spoons along with a few black drum on artificials as well.
