This past Memorial Day Weekend was definitely challenging with the massive influx of people on the water but it did not stop the fish from eating. We did get a little extra water pushed into the New Smyrna Beach backwaters with a strong NE wind for a few days. The winds have shifted back to the West Southwest and water levels are starting to get back to normal.
The bait continues to be plentiful throughout Mosquito Lagoon and the fish can still be found in and around the bait. Plugs have been working well early in the morning then moving to spoons, plastics and live bait as the sun gets higher. It looks like we have some afternoon storms moving into the area later in the week but hopefully will not be causing any issues for a morning session. We have started to get our summer time afternoon thunderstorms this past week bringing some much needed rain to the New Smyrna Beach area. The rain has definitely not affected the bite as we are still boating nice trout and redfish throughout the Mosquito Lagoon waters. We continue to have large amounts of bait spread out across the flats and along the shorelines.
Look for the bait pods holding shallow in the early mornings and then move with the bait to deeper water as the sun starts to get higher. Plugs, spoons and soft plastics along with a variety of live bait have all been working well. The weather looks good going into the weekend which should just continue the awesome bite. Capt Patrick Rood The weather has been awesome this past week with highs in the mid 80’s and clear skies. The fishing continues to be good throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters along with Mosquito Lagoon. The redfish have been holding in the shallows mixed in with the bait pods . The trout can be found shallow early ten moving off the flats as the sun starts to get bigger in the sky. Looking at the ten day forecast we may be getting some moisture later in the week but other than that it looks to continue to be stable . Bait has been plentiful on the flats with live finger mullet working well along with artificials as well.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 We have definitely entered our early summer time pattern here in the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach. Look for the bait to be plentiful throughout the flats and the fish not too far. Working plugs and spoons early in the morning has been creating and steady bite then moving to soft plastics later in the day .live finger mullet and cut bait have also been working well on both the redfish and trout with a little patience. The weather looks to be very stable for the upcoming week which should just secure the bite.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 We have had a little hiccup in the weather this past week with some serious showers. The showers have not affected the bite at all throughout the New Smyrna Beach area. The bait pods continue to cover the flats making for some great fishing . We have been throwing everything from plugs and soft plastics to live finger mullet and cut bait. We have been bringing several species boat side from redfish , trout and jacks to snook and the occasional flounder. This coming weeks weather looks to be great and by the end of the week it’s calling for highs in the mid80’s .
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues to be steady throughout the waters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. The bait has been plentiful scattered both in the backwaters and on the flats. Look for the trout, redfish and snook in and around the bait pods. Both artificial and live bait have been working well.
Plugs and spoons early then moving to soft plastics backed up by some some live shrimp or mullet as well. The wind has definitely been a force to play with this past week but it has also allowed the fish to not be on edge making it easier to get shots on them. The weather looks to be good for the most part this up coming week which should just reassure the bite. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 A late season cold front has brought in some much needed rain but also a lot of wind this past week. Wind gust of 20 mph has not made for some fun conditions on the water . It looks as though things will be calming down and getting back to normal by the end of the week.
Even with the unwanted conditions the bite continues to stay strong throughout the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters. The bait has been plentiful on the flats and the game fish have been taking full advantage of that. We also had a nice run of shrimp this past week giving these fish another food source to gorge themselves on. The redfish and trout have been hanging in and around the schools of bait and the snook and black drum holding in the deeper water. Live bait and artificials have both been working well to get the bites. Look for this bite to only get better as this weather continues to move past our state. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 I believe here in Central FL we have skipped spring and gone straight into Summer. It has been hot and looking at the extended forecast it’s here to stay for a while. The cool thing is the bite has also been hot the last few days and should continue. The snook, trout and redfish have been cooperating well from New Smyrna Beach south through Mosquito Lagoon. It seems as though finding the bait is the key , where the bait has been the fish have not been too far away. Shrimp , mullet and cut bait have all been working well along with plugs early then moving to spoons and soft plastics.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues to be strong throughout the waters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. The weather has been great this past week triggering a chewing mood for our fish. Look for this activity to continue as the extended forecast shows a high pressure sitting over the state into next week.
The sight fishing has been good with numbers of black drum and red fish cruising the shallows of Mosquito Lagoon . The trout and snook have been making an appearance as well in the deeper water looking for a easy meal. Live bait has been the best choice but soft plastics and spoons have been getting the job done for artificial. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The little last bit of winter still wants to hang around the Central FL area for another week. This past weekend was when the front moved through creating cooler temps and windy conditions. Before the front the bite was excellent throughout the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters and will continue as the days warm this week.
We have been targeting several species from black drum , redfish , trout , snook and jacks. Both artificial’s and live bait have been working well . The smaller presentations have been working better with the cooler water temps and clear skies. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 |
