This past week we were actually blessed with a couple of days that allowed us to get on the water with out wind burn. The water levels are low and the fish are schooled up like they should be. The trout bite and redfish bite on Mosquito Lagoon has been good with several coming boat side. I am hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel with the severe weather we have been felt with the last month or so.

After the recent cold blasts that we have had it has dropped the water temps into the fifties on the flats. The good news is that it has also cleaned the water clarity extremely good. With warmer temps in the near future the bite should be back to normal in no time.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 It seems as though Mother Nature is giving our waters a cleansing here in Central FL. The cold fronts just keep coming and the winds come with them. This is making it hard to get out and take advantage of the nice clean clear water conditions we do have. The redfish and black drum have been chewing well later in the day as the water temps rise. The trout have been holding in the pot holes trying to gather as much warmth as possible and the snook have not done well with the extreme water temp drops at all. Hopefully we can get the extreme weather behind and move forward with some great fishing.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 With the recent cold blast that we have received here in central Fl it has caused the water temps to plummet through out New Smyrna and Mosquito Lagoon. unfortunately we have had some casualties do to the extreme cooler water temps. The snook and tarpon can not handle the long periods of cold water which will cause there systems to shut down. On the horizon there looks to be normal weather arriving back here in sunny Central FL in the coming days. The water levels have dropped and water clarity is pristine for sight fishing, all we need is the winds to lay down a bit and fishing should be back to normal. The redfish and black drum have been in there winter time patterns along with the trout. look for the redfish to be holding in the pot holes along side the trout gathering the warmth from the bottom. The black drum can be located cruising the mud flats searching out there next meal. Good Luck and be safe! Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 It's hard to believe that it is already 2018. It seems as though this year has just flown by. With the start of the new came with the start of a new cold front here on the Lagoon. After these winds settle down in a few days I'm foreseeing some great sight fishing . The shifting winds will decrease water levels in the New Smyrna Beach back waters and Mosquito Lagoon. The water clarity has been great and should be even better after this recent cold snap. The redfish and trout have been chewing well along with the black drum. They have all been chewing better later in the morning as the temperatures start to increase.
