With the summer time pattern in full effect the storms have been visiting in the afternoons. This time of year I like to get a early start to avoid the heat and the rain. The redfish and trout bite has been good this past week . When conditions allow the bite off the beach has been good as well with a variety of jacks, sharks, bonita and the occasional tarpon.

The trout bite on Mosquito Lagoon is still good with double digits coming boat side. The redfish on the other hand have been hit or miss. One day they want to play and another they want to be antisocial. I believe coming off the full moon last week had a little something to do with it. The jacks and tarpon are still holding the fort down around the bridges in the intracoastal and inlets.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 Summer is definitely in full swing with air temps in the mid 90's here in Central Fl. But the weather is not the only thing that is hot at the moment. We have had some great fishing here in New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon area. The trout have been chewing well with many double digit days. Look for the bait holding around the edges of the flats and you will find the trout and redfish in the mix. The redfish bite has been good as well with some great success by starting the morning out on the shallow grass flats that are holding bait. Look for tailing fish or backing fish mixed in with the bait fish. As the sun rises and the water temps warm they will start to move off the shallows to the edges , this is a good time to target them with a ADL spoon or live finger mullet to trigger a bite in a little deeper water. The snook bite has been very good as well, in and around the New Smyrna Beach area. Look for the structure and moving water and you will find the snook. They have been receptive to both live bait and artificials. The beaches from Daytona Beach south to Canaveral have started to come alive with bait pods. With bait pods come predator fish. They have been catching bonita , sharks, bull reds and the occasional tarpon off the beaches. It can always be a little tricky navigating the inlets so make sure you plan your trip and watch the weather.
Good luck and be safe! Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The temperature has been blistering on the water the last couple of weeks but has not seemed to effect the bite. We still have good numbers of bait pods through out New Smyrna and Mosquito Lagoon and the fish can still be found in and around the bait. The tarpon have started to show in good numbers inshore and offshore along with the jacks. Now that the Fourth of July week is coming to a end ( aka amateur week) the fish should chew even better.
