Our weather here in the New Smyrna Beach area has finally started to become stable. It looks like the weather will continue into next week making for good fishing conditions. We still have good numbers of bait throughout both New Smyrna and Mosquito Lagoon. We have been targeting several species from bluefish, jacks , redfish and snook. There has been trout , black drum and redfish hanging on shorelines in the Lagoon. They have been chewing well on live and cut bait but have also been receptive to artificial’s as well.

The fishing has continued to be steady throughout the New Smyrna Beach area. We had a little break of nice weather for a few days making for a little better bite. There is a cool front approaching FL which will lower air temps and unfortunately bring some windy conditions. Hopefully the cooler weather and future fronts will get the water conditions in Mosquito Lagoon back to normal. We still have bait scattered through out New Smyrna and Mosquito Lagoon. Due to the water clarity in the Lagoon at the moment live finger mullet, cut bait , plugs and spoons have been working the best. We have still been catching a variety of species from snook, jacks, redfish and trout to name a few.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 With the recent strong winds and high water fishing has been a challenge. The water clarity in Mosquito Lagoon is very dirty making sight fishing extremely hard. Throwing search baits has been a good way to produce a bite. Moving into the sheltered creeks of New Smyrna is a good way to avoid the wind. Throwing live shrimp and mullet on the leeward shorelines will also produce a bite. With a tropical storm passing to the west of us by the end of the week the weather should start to stable and the bite will improve.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The fishing still continues to be good with several redfish coming boat side this past week. We did finally get some cooler weather which unfortunately brought along high winds for a few days. After these winds subside the bight should continue to be good. Look for the pods of bait throughout New Smyrna Beach and the Mosquito Lagoon. I like to target the bait pods with both artificial and live bait. The trout, jacks , snook and redfish have been in or near the bait the last couple of weeks and are always looking for a easy meal. It looks as though the weather will stable out toward the end of the week and the bite should only get better.
