We have had some strange weather conditions this past week with a small front coming through and quite a bit of rain. The shift in winds , rain and a full moon phase has brought a influx of water throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters into Mosquito Lagoon. These fish are taking full advantage of the high water moving into areas they usually don’t get to feed in. For the most part the water clarity has been pretty good making it easier to sight fish on the sunny days. Look for the shallow bays holding bait and the fish will be mixed in. Spoons , soft plastics and shrimp have been the go to baits these past few weeks. It looks like we have another cold front coming in next week which will continue to lower the water temps and push the fish into their winter time patterns.

Temperatures here in the New Smyrna Beach area have started to level off. Cool mornings and evenings with comfortable mid day temperatures has been making for pleasant fishing conditions. We have had some higher then average water conditions due to this recent low pressure dumping several inches of rain. Look for the fish to be holding in and around the bait in places the water is usually extremely low. Water temps are cooling a bit so if using artificials slow your retrieves a bit and smaller baits have been working well. Live bait has been working well also like pin fish, mullet and shrimp . The water clarity been fairly good throughout Mosquito Lagoon and if temperatures continue will only get better throughout winter.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 It seems as though our fall weather has started to move into the New Smyrna Beach area bringing a little crispier morning’s. We are still seeing a good amount of bait throughout the intracoastal and Mosquito Lagoon. As we move further into fall look for the water to clear up and the fish to start changing their patterns. Look for your redfish and trout to move into the pot holes and on shallow mud flats with bait. Small artificials along with shrimp and finger mullet work well this time of year and the upcoming months.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 This past week has been another good week of fishing here in the New Smyrna Beach area. We have been targeting several species like tarpon, redfish , snook and jacks just to mention a few. The weather has been holding steady until the latter part of the week bringing in a cold front making the fishing conditions less then enjoyable. The front brought rain, cool air temps and high winds. The wind will be hanging around for a few days then calming down to make for some great fishing weather. The fish will start to prepare for there winter patterns as the water will start to cool this month depending on more fronts. Look for the schools of bait on the shallow flats and back bays of Mosquito Lagoon and the fish will be with them. As the water temps continue to cool the redfish and trout will both be found shallow making for some good sight fishing.
