The weather has been perfect here in the New Smyrna Beach area for the past couple of weeks. Fortunately the fish are not self distancing themselves from us and have been chewing well. I have definitely noticed a increase of boat traffic on Mosquito Lagoon along with around the New Smyrna Beach area as well. The extra traffic has not been a issue because the majority of the fish have been extremely shallow this past week. We have been boating most of our trout and redfish on live finger mullet and cut bait but they have also been receptive to artificials as well. We still have a large number of black drum patrolling the south mosquito Lagoon. These guys have been chewing well on shrimp and crab and will eat imitations as well. The snook bite has also been good throughout the Daytona Beach area this past week. Look for the right tide with moving water near structure and they will be there waiting on a meal.

Spring time is upon us here on the beautiful beaches of Daytona and New Smyrna Beach. The weather has been great this past week and looks to be the same forecast for this week as well. We still have low clear water throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. Making for some good sight fishing for multiple species of fish. The redfish have been chewing well on both live bait and artificial along with the trout as well. With the warmer weather the snook have started to turn on with several coming boat side last week. As the we continue to move further into spring look for the fish to move into their spring time pattern as well.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 Bike Week is in full swing here in the Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach area. It seems as though they have hit the weather perfect for the bikers with highs in the 70’s all week long. The fish are going to start preparing for their spring time pattern. The redfish will start to split from the schools in search of new food source. Look for them along shorelines and bar edges in the New Smyrna Beach area and Mosquito Lagoon. The trout should start feeding a lot better as the water temps continue to warm. Look for the trout around the schools of bait throughout Mosquito Lagoon and in the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach. As the weather has been warmer the snook bite has been getting better in and around the Daytona Beach area. Live shrimp and artificials around structure has been working well. The redfish and trout have been chewing well on both live and artificial as well with soft plastics in a shrimp pattern working best. We still have a good sheepshead and black drum bite going on along with the nice occasional flounder coming boat side as well.
