The temperature’s this past week have been hot to say the least reaching mid 90’s and feeling well over a hundred but with that being said that bite has been fire early morning to mid morning. We have had plenty of bait covering the shallow flats of Mosquito Lagoon along with the back waters of New Smyrna Beach.
Look for the trout , redfish and snook to be shallow early and as the day heats up they will be falling off to the edges in a little deeper water. Live bait and artificials have been both working well in the shallows and deeper shorelines. Throwing plugs early have been producing some great bites on snook, jacks and trout as moving to live bait when the sun gets up has been tricking the redfish and other species. The weather looks to be consistent into next week which means this bite should continue to be good. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394

Unlike the weather here in Central Florida the bite continues to stay consistently good . We have been starting early and finishing by mid morning to beat the heat and storms that have been hitting us all week. We are continuing to bring several species boat side like trout, redfish ,snook and jacks . We still have a large amount of bait spread out through the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach south into Mosquito Lagoon. Target the bait pods early and move to the deeper edges of flats and shorelines as the sun gets higher. Plugs , soft plastics and live bait have all been working well. It looks like the weather will be continuing through next week so watch out for those pesky afternoon storms.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The summer time weather pattern is in full effect here in Central Florida with really hot days and late afternoon thunderstorms. With this pattern sitting in it has fired up the bite again with stirring things up in the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach. The bait continues to be plentiful and the fish can be found in and around the schools of bait.
We have been boating several different species like jacks , redfish, trout, snook and black drum . The secret has been find the bait find the fish and this is even more true throughout Mosquito Lagoon where the bait has also been in great numbers . This weather pattern looks to be here into next week and the fish do not seem to mind. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon have been heating up with some great fishing this past week. We have had multiple boat slams come boat side with trout , redfish and snook . We have even had the occasional flounder make an appearance. The bait continues to be spread out from Daytona Beach south into the Lagoon.
Look for the bait pods and structure as the fish will not be to far away. Early starts have been the truck lately as we have had some extremely hot days along with afternoon thunderstorms. The weather looks to be about the same heading into next week so I foresee the bite continuing to be strong. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The weather has finally leveled out here in the Central Florida area with our warm days and afternoon thunderstorms. With this summer time pattern in effect it has also put our fish into their summer time patter as well . The redfish have been chewing well both in the backwaters of New Smyrna and in the shallows of Mosquito Lagoon.
The trout have also been making an appearance with several coming boat side this past week. We have also had a fairly good snook bite along with a mix of black drum as well. The weather looks to be stable moving into next week so I foresee the bite continuing on through the following week. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 This past weekend was another good week of catching even had a couple days of slams in the mix. The trout and redfish have been chewing well with the occasional snook and black drum making an appearance. We have a great amount of bait covering the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and on the flats of Mosquito Lagoon.
It looks as though this week we could have a little unstable weather with some breezy conditions so we will definitely be using the wind to our advantage. Next week looks like it should be getting back to normal with our standard afternoon thunderstorms and hot summer temps. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 Central Florida in a whole has had some seriously dry weather this past month to two months making for some very crunchy lawns. The lack of rain has not affected the bite here in New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. The bait has been plentiful and scattered throughout the backwaters and grass flats.
Look for the trout and redfish to be holding in and around the bait pods as the snook and jacks can be found along the deeper shorelines with structure. Plugs and soft plastics have been working well along with a variety of live bait. The extended forecast is not looking great for any rain but on the brighter note the clear sky’s make for some good sight fishing. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 This past week along with Memorial Day Weekend was a scorcher with highs in the mid 90’s. The temperatures were not the only hot thing in the New Smyrna Beach area though , as the bite on Mosquito Lagoon was just as hot. As the week went on it definitely increased in boat traffic but retreating to the backwaters was the key.
Finding the bait pods and targeting the edges has been working well for the trout and redfish as the deeper shorelines have been holding a good number of snook, mangrove snapper and jacks . As we move into this up coming week things will get back to normal boat traffic and the bite should only get better. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 Headlong into the Memorial Day weekend with what looks to be good weather and some good fishing. The bite continues to be solid throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and south into Mosquito Lagoon.
The water clarity continues to be great and the bait has really started to move up into the shallows. Look for the redfish and trout to be holding in and around the bait pods searching for an easy meal. The snook and jacks have been holding in a little deeper water both in the backwaters and intracoastal. Live bait, cut bait and artificials have all been working well . It will be busy on the water this weekend so please be safe. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The weather has started to get into its summer time pattern here on the East Coast of Florida with the hit days and afternoon showers. Looking at the extended forecast for the Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach area it’s calling for chances of afternoon showers into next week. The weather has not been the only thing hot here in Central Florida the bite has been as well. With the bait moving throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and into Mosquito Lagoon the game fish are following.
Look for the trout and redfish to be holding in and around the bait pods . The black drum can still be found in the shallow sand holes and mud flats feeding in crustaceans. The snook have been holding on deeper shorelines and around structure that has had a constant flow of moving water with bait near by. The redfish, trout and snook have been very receptive to both live bait and artificials . The black drum have been focusing on shrimp the past few weeks.
