The fishing is still good here in the New Smyrna Beach area. We have been bringing several species boat side from redfish to snook and trout just to mention a few. The bait can still be found throughout Mosquito Lagoon and north through the creeks of New Smyrna Beach. The early morning bite has been the best. Target the bait pods on the shallow flats with both artificial or live bait and then moving to deeper ledges later in the morning. The water has definitely been heating up quickly and I have noticed the bite starting to slow down by late morning on the flats. It looks like the weather pattern will continue into next week with hot days and afternoon showers.

The bite has continued to be good throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters. The bait seems to be in abundance in the creeks and south into Mosquito Lagoon. We have been targeting several species like snook, redfish, trout, jacks and the occasional tarpon. The artificial bite has slowed down a bit and a lot has to do with the high water temps. You can still get a decent bite early or later in the evening but by mid morning through late afternoon artificials are not the best choice. Look for the deeper sloughs and docks with a little bit cooler water temps and the fish will be a little more cooperative. The bite on live and cut bait has been awesome anything from live pinfish , pigfish and mullet to cut bait has been working well. Just remember that early starts have been best with air temps and water temps rising quickly making for a much tougher bite as the day moves on.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The weather has not been the only thing hot in New Smyrna Beach this past week. With several double digit days on Mosquito Lagoon this past week I would say the fishing is still good. The trout have been chewing well early in the shallows and moving to deeper water as the day moves on. The redfish have been spread out across the flats and there has also bern some breeders working their way out to the inlets as well. We still have a large number of jacks , lady fish and tarpon throughout the ICW in New Smyrna. All of these species have been very receptive to live bait along with some variety of artificials presented correctly.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite has continued to be good in the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters. We have had a little hiccup this week with a tropical storm skirting the coast of Florida but it never phased the bite. Look for the early morning to be the most productive. Trout and redfish can be found on the shallow bars and shoals throughout Mosquito Lagoon mixed in with the bait early in the mornings. As the sun gets up and starts to warm the waters they will move off the edges to deeper cooler water. They have been receptive to a variety of artificials and live bait as well. The tarpon have been all over the backwaters of New Smyrna along with the snook, trout and redfish as well. Just like the Lagoon look for the bite to be better early and then move to the deeper water later in the day. The baits of choice have been several from mullet, pin fish and shrimp to name a few along with several artificials like hard baits and soft plastics.
