It was a great week of fishing in New Smyrna. The rain was here but it didn’t change the water clarity or the bite. My clients caught many 7lbs - 9lbs trophy trout & plenty of stud redfish. We still have good numbers of Bait through out Mosquito Lagoon. Also we jumped a few Tarpon in the backwaters too.

We have had a little break in the afternoon showers this past week but looking at the forecast for this week they are back in full swing. The water clarity in the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon area has been holding steady. We still have a good number of bait pods through out the backwaters along with a good number or game fish as well. The redfish and tarpon have been eating good early and slacking off as the day heats up. The trout are still chewing well through out the day with the bite starting out shallow then moving to the edges later in the day.

Patrick Rood7/16/2018 We have had some very hot and humid days here in Central FL but it has not effected the bite one bit. The tarpon have moved in through out New Smyrna Beach and south to Mosquito Lagoon. They have been feeding best early morning as well as late evening. The trout bite has been very good as well with a lot of 20” plus trout coming boat side. The redfish bite has been better early in the morning and slacking off as the day goes on. The water conditions are still holding steady with great clarity and plenty of Bait fish through out Mosquito Lagoon.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite has been good early and slacking off as the mid day heat starts to rise. The tarpon have started to show up through out New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. Targeting these fellas can sometimes be challenging but persistence always pays off. The best bite will be early morning and late evening through the night. The trout and redfish bite is still holding strong. We have been getting a good response on both artificials and live bait. With the Fourth of July week upon us the boat traffic will be to a all time high on the water. Please be aware of others and safe boating as well.
