It seemed as the Fall weather gave us a little tease here in Central FL this past week with some lows in the 60’s. Unfortunately that was short lived and we are back into high 70’s at night and 90’s in the day . The good news is that this weather has not effected our bite in the New Smyrna Beach area at all. We still continue to have plenty of bait scattered throughout the backwaters and into Mosquito Lagoon.
With all the bait comes our game fish like trout , redfish and snook looking for easy meals . Targeting the bait pods with live bait or artificial has been working well and producing an array of different species. The weather looks to be back on the afternoon shower pattern so early morning will probably be best to get a line wet. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394

It looks as though we are getting a little mild cooling front this week and I’m not complaining. Let’s not get crazy though when I say cooling its down to 91 degrees instead of 98 but I’ll take it. The bite continues ti be strong throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters and south into Mosquito Lagoon. The bait is sill pouring onto the flats and into the intracoastal making for easy feeding for several species.
The redfish and trout have been mixed in with the bait pods up on the flats where as the jacks and snook have been holding a little deeper around the structure. The tarpon can still be found off the beach and throughout the intracoastal mixed in and around the bait pods as well. It looks like we will continue to have our afternoon showers for the rest of the week so early starts are recommended not only for the cooler water temps but also not to get wet . Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The weather may have cooled off just a little but that bite still seems to be hot . We are continuing to boat several different species trout and redfish to snook and black drum. The bait is still in great numbers throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and south into Mosquito Lagoon. The bite still seems to be slowing down by mid day due to the heat but the mornings have been the ticket. Look for the large bait pods and the fish will be near by . We have also had some good numbers of fish shallow up on the flats milling around early as well. Live bait and soft plastics have been working well along with a gold spoon . The weather looks good through the week so I foresee the bite continuing.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 Even after our one day of hurricane conditions here on the East Coast the bite continues strong throughout New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. The bait continues to be covering the flats and shorelines making for great cover and opportunities for game fish. Plugs and soft plastics have been working well early morning along with live bait as well. Target the edges of the bait pods whether it’s artificial or live bait and the bites will come. We have been boating all different species like redfish, trout, black drum , jacks and snook just to mention a few. The weather looks to be good for the extended forecast which means the bite should only continue to be good.
