The heat has continued to be relentless this past week but has not affected the bite at all. We have been having a steady bite from New Smyrna Beach south throughout the Mosquito Lagoon. Early starts and early finishes have been the key. Look for the bait hanging on the flats and shorelines and the fish will not be far. Plugs and spoons have been working early but live bait has been a little better bite. It looks like we have some possible weather working into Central Florida next week . If it does make its way , it may actually help to cool the temps down and continue the bite.

The bite continues in the New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach waters. We have been targeting several different species from redfish and trout to snook and black drum. Although the temperatures have been pretty toasty this past week it hasn’t stopped the bite. Both artificial’s and live bait have been working well especially early morning. By mid morning moving over to live bait has been the ticket as the fish start to move to deeper water off the flats.
We still have plenty of bait scattered through Mosquito Lagoon and the backwaters of New Smyrna which continues to hold fish in the area . Targeting the bait pods early has been successful for both redfish and trout. The up coming week looks to be the same weather pattern as what we have had so the bite should continue to be strong . Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 We are definitely in a summer heat wave here in the Central FL area with daily highs in the mid to upper 90’s. The water temps have increased as well making the bite a little slower due to the warmer waters . That does not mean the bite has stopped we just have to focus on the cooler parts of the days Luke the early mornings or late evenings. The bait is still plentiful throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters south into Mosquito Lagoon. Live bait has been the choice the past couple of weeks but slow worked artificials will produce a bite as well. We have been targeting redfish, snook , trout and the occasional tarpon when they want to cooperate . It looks like we could have our afternoon showers back in the forecast starting next week which will help out on the cool down both in the air and water temperatures.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 There has been some extremely hot days this past week but that heat has not affected the bite one bit. I will say we have been wrapping up by mid day but that morning bite has been great. The bait continues to be plentiful throughout Mosquito Lagoon and the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach allowing the trout and redfish ample food source. The trout and redfish have not been the only species roaming the waters , jacks , snook and tarpon have all been in the mix these past couple weeks. The forecast for next week looks to be the same which should reassure the bite to continue. Live bait has been working a little better than artificial but fish have been caught on both. Early morning and late evening as the water temps are cooler has been the key.
