The trout bite has started to get into full swing throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters. Look for the bait along the bars and shallow flats in and around Mosquito Lagoon. The trout and redfish will be holding among the pods of bait looking for a easy meal. They have been receptive to plugs and soft plastics early in the mornings then moving to spoons later in the day. Mullet , shrimp and pin fish have also been working well when presented correctly. It seems as though the summer heat has started to set in and as the water continues to warm the bite will continue to get better.

This late cold front that past last week has brought us some cooler weather and a whole bunch of wind. The wind has not effected the bite though. We have been on a steady trout and redfish bite here in New Smyrna Beach. Once this high pressure lifts later in the week the bite will only continue to get better. Look for the redfish and trout to be holding in and around the bait throughout Mosquito Lagoon and the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach. The jacks and snook have also been chewing well in and around the backwaters of the Lagoon. Plugs , spoons and soft plastics have all been working well. Focus on the structure along shorelines holding bait.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bait has really started to move into the backwaters of the New Smyrna Beach area. With the influx of bait the fish have followed making for a good bite. Look for your trout, snook and occasional tarpon early in the morning. The tarpon and snook will be holding in and around structure and deep ledges as the trout will be on the shallow flats early. Look for the redfish along the shorelines throughout Mosquito Lagoon mixed in with the pods of bait. The live bait bite has been best but we have also been getting them to chew on soft plastics and plugs as well. It looks as though the summer time weather pattern has set in , hot days with afternoon showers. I believe the key is to get out there early , get on the bite and back home before the heat.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bait has started to flow into New Smyrna Beach in good numbers. With the bait starting to arrive look for the bite to only get better. These next few months are one of my favorite times of year to fish. The larger snook are starting to chew around the structure along with the larger jacks as well. The redfish and trout can be found mixed in with the bait further south throughout Mosquito Lagoon. The live bait has been working best but plugs and soft plastics have been getting the job done . As more bait continues to show up the bite will continue to only get better.
