The bite has been hot along with the weather. We have had some very steamy days this past week but as long as the fish do not mind I’m ok with it. The redfish and trout both have been chewing well early. As mid morning hits the trout keep chewing and the redfish seem to slow down a little. The Tarpon have started to show up in larger numbers from New Smyrna Beach south through out the Mosquito Lagoon. The water clarity is still holding well considering we are going on thirty days straight of rain. I look for the bite to continue to hold strong for the up coming months.

The tarpon are starting to show up both inland and off the beaches and I expect the numbers to increase as the weeks go on.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 We have had some great chamber of commerce weather here in New Smyrna Beach the last few days. The air temperature has gotten in the low 90’s so I’m going to say it’s going to be a hot summer this year. The temperature is not the only thing that is hot on Mosquito Lagoon though. The trout bite has been on fire with multiple double digit days. There are still schools of redfish through out the Lagoon. I like to target both species early with plugs then moving over to spoons and soft plastics later in the day. Live bait has also been a good choice from shrimp to pin fish and finger mullet all work well along with cut bait. The tarpon have started to make an appearance around the New Smyrna Beach area and I expect to start seeing a better run of them in the next few weeks.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 We are in the full swing of the summer time pattern here on Mosquito Lagoon. The Bait has shown up in great numbers and the trout have followed. So far we have had a good trout bite along with redfish as well. Plugs in the early morning has been working well for both species along with live bait too. We have also been boating redfish, jacks and blue fish in the New Smyrna Beach area on several different artificials like twitch baits and ADL Spoons. The water conditions has been holding up good considering the amount of rain Central FL has received over the past month.
