Just when I thought we were all into Spring I look at the forecast and Winter wants to make another appearance. It looks as though a cold blast will be hitting us at the end of the week into the weekend making for windy and cooler conditions. The fishing has been good the past couple of weeks with the stable weather conditions. We have been bringing several snook, redfish and trout boat side. The full moon brought some larger tide swings making for some higher highs and lower lows as far as tides. Look for the bite to be a little tuff through this late front and increasing as the weather starts to stable. Artificials and live bait have both been working well. Plugs and spoons early early in the morning and then moving on to soft plastics as the day moves on. Live finger mullet and shrimp have also been working well both targeting shorelines and sand holes.

It seems as though Mr Winter wanted to give us one last little blast this week. After all the wind from this passing front it has stirred up the bottom creating some dirty water conditions. It should be back to normal with in a few days. The water temps did drop a little bit in the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach causing the fish to go back to their winter time patterns. Look for the trout and snook to be holding in the deeper water until water temps rise again. The redfish seem to be hanging out in and around the pot holes throughout Mosquito Lagoon. The baits of choice has been shrimp, cut bait and small soft plastics. As the water and air temperatures rise later in the week the fish will start to work toward their Spring time habits.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The weather has been outstanding this past week and continues to look good here in New Smyrna Beach. The fish have been chewing well with many different species coming boat side like redfish, snook and trout to mention a few. The bite has been good on both artificial and live bait . Plugs , spoons and soft plastics have been working well in Mosquito Lagoon and north into Edgewater. Live bait has been more receptive in the New Smyrna Beach waters. Look for the bite to continue to stay strong as we move further into Spring.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 With Bike Week in full effect here in Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach that is definitely a sign of Spring is around the corner. With Spring around the corner brings a different bite. The water starts to warm just as the days do and the bait will start to show itself in better numbers. This is a good time for plugs, spoons, and soft plastics along with live shrimp and finger mullet. As the water temps continue to warm the fish will be more active. Look for the redfish and trout along the edges of the flats and pot holes throughout Mosquito Lagoon then moving up in the shallows as the day moves on. The snook , jacks and mangrove snapper have been holding in the deeper water throughout the New Smyrna backwaters.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 This past week was like a little taste of Spring here in New Smyrna Beach. We had clear skies and highs in the 80’s along with some very crowded boat ramps . The bite has been good with several redfish and snook coming boat side this past week. The weather looks like it could be taking a dip over the next couple days into the 60’s which should only help the fish throughput Mosquito Lagoon. Live bait has been the go to baits this week from finger mullet to shrimp and the occasional blue crabs. If artificials are more your style then plugs , spoons and small soft plastics have been working well.
