It seems as though we have received a little shot of fall weather these past couple of days. It’s been a little crispy in the mornings and a high of 85. To us Floridians 85 is fall . The new found weather has not effected the fishing at all. We have been boating several redfish, snook and jacks this past week in the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach. We have had a influx of water throughout Mosquito Lagoon this past week spreading the fish up in areas not commonly not used. With a good amount of bait in the area throwing plugs early morning has been working well. After the sun gets a little higher moving to some live bait like finger mullet or pin fish has also been working well. Hopefully the weather continues to hold out and the rain stay away for at least the next week .

The weather has definitely been affecting us here in the New Smyrna Beach area. We have been receiving a lot of rain making for high dirty water conditions in Mosquito Lagoon. The fish have spread out a little with the higher water so focusing on the bait pods have been the key. Look for the bait condensed and you will find fish. The trout and redfish have both been mixed in with the schools of mullet. Plugs, spoons , shrimp and pin fish have all been working well. Hopefully we will be getting a little break from the rain in the up coming week. The snook and jacks can still be seen shattering pods of mullet along the shorelines as well.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues to stay strong throughout the waters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. We still have a steady flow of bait on the flats and the fish can still be found holding around it. Live bait and artificials have both been working well . Top waters early then moving to soft plastics and spoons later in the day . We have a good number of mullet around so try and match the mullet color pattern on your artificials for bed results. The go to live bait has been finger mullet , shrimp or pin fish. With the opening of snook season this month they have been beat on pretty hard but can still be found if you put your time in. The redfish and trout have been hanging in the shallows and moving to deeper water later in the day. Looks like the weather will be stable into next week which makes for a good time to get out and fish.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend taking in some much needed relaxation. They say Labor Day is the end of summer but here in Florida it doesn’t cool down until about January 😂. The bite continues to be good throughout the New Smyrna Beach area with several species coming boat side. The weather looks to be stable the rest of the week with possibilities of stormy weather coming from the Gulf by the weekend. I have noticed a good number of bait pods showing up both inshore and along the beaches. Focus on the pods of bait throwing both artificials and live bait . The jacks , tarpon and bonita have been lined up and down the beach focusing on the bait. The snook bite has been hit or miss, one day they are chewing and the next they turn their head up to everything.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The fishing still continues to be good throughout New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. The backwaters of New Smyrna Beach has been yielding a great mixture of species like redfish, trout, snook and jacks. Live bait and artificials have been working well . Look for the waters to be a little crowded the next few weeks as snook season opens up here on the east coast Sept 1st. The near shore bite has been pretty good as well with big jacks, Bonita , tarpon and sharks scattered about. Cut bait and live bait have been working well out there.
