I feel like I have said this before but let's hope the cold fronts are a thing of the past for a while. The water clarity is still outstanding making for some good sight fishing. The trout bite has been getting better as we have had some warmer weather helping to warm the water temps. The red fish bite has been good along with the black drum bite as well. Both are still schooled up in smaller and larger pods from New Smyrna south through out the Lagoon.

Last week we had a few days of excellent sight fishing weather and my clients put that blessing to great use. The water clarity is still great and the fish are still hanging out together in their spring time patterns. The trout bite has been good and it seems as though they are preparing for a spring time spawn in the near future. Black drum can still be found through out the Lagoon system and also in the back country of New Smyrna Beach area.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 This past week was a little bit of a struggle with weather. We had another cold front hit us here in New Smyrna Beach which brought along some strong north west winds and cool temperatures. The bite was just starting to get good before the front and then slacked off as the front moved through. After the front the bite returned twice fold with redfish, trout, black drum and even some smaller snook coming boat side. Unfortunately we are staring down another mild front passing through this week but on the bright side the weather looks to be great the latter part of the week. We still have some good numbers of schools throughout Mosquito Lagoon and the New Smyrna Beach area. We also have good numbers of trout holding on the ledges and in the pot holes preparing for the spring time spawn. Shrimp and live finger mullet have been the go to live baits and ADL spoons or soft plastics have been working well for artificial's. As far as water clarity it has been outstanding and in some cases to clean making fish very cautious about their surroundings. If you run into this situation slow down a little and make low and long cast to prevent a shadow from over head.
Good luck and be safe! Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 Well it seems as though Mother Winter does not want to leave us here in Central FL. Another front hit us at the end of last week and bringing with it was 25 plus mph winds. Before the front we did have a couple of nice days with plenty of bait and fish to be found. The trout and redfish seem to be preparing for their spring time pattern now all we need is the weather to cooperate. Looking at the forecast for the end of the week it looks like we will be getting one more small front and hopefully this will be it and we can start spring.
