The all around bite has been good through out the New Smyrna Beach area. The bait pods have been thick on the flats of Mosquito Lagoon and in the backwaters of Edgewater and New Smyrna. Target the pods of bait for a variety of species from redfish, trout, jacks and snook. We also have a good number of tarpon scattered from New Smyrna Beach south throughout Mosquito Lagoon. We had some nicer weather last week when a small front moved through but unfortunately it did not last long. We are now back to high humidity and temps in the 90’s but it definitely has not effected the bite.

This past week was extremely hot here in New Smyrna Beach but I feel like I have been saying that same thing this whole summer. The heat has not affected the bite on Mosquito Lagoon though. We have been boating good numbers of trout and redfish through out Mosquito Lagoon. The snook and flounder bite has been good this past week through out the New Smyrna Beach area. We still have a good number of bait pods both inshore through out Mosquito Lagoon and off the beach of New Smyrna. The old saying is find the bait you’ll find the fish and right now that has been true.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The temperature has been blistering here in New Smyrna Beach area with highs in the mid 90’s. The water temps have also risen through out Mosquito Lagoon making the mid day bite not so great. Early morning in Mosquito Lagoon has been good for redfish and trout and even the occasional flounder or black drum. Later in the evening around the New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater area has been producing some shots at snook and tarpon as well. There is still a lot of bait through out the Mosquito Lagoon and New Smyrna Beach area giving these game fish plenty to choose from.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 After this past holiday week it seems as though the New Smyrna Beach area is getting back to normal. Mosquito Lagoon had a lot more boat traffic then usual this past week. The bite slowed down a little in the New Smyrna Beach area after the 4th but has came back in full swing. We have been boating nice redfish and trout along with some snook as well. The bite in Mosquito Lagoon has picked back up as well after the holiday bringing several trout and redfish boat side these past couple of days. It seems as though the summer time weather pattern is in full swing with afternoon thunderstorms hitting the New Smyrna Beach area everyday by early afternoon.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite has been good through out the New Smyrna Beach area south into Mosquito Lagoon. We are dealing with a little bit of dirty water in Mosquito Lagoon but nothing abnormal during this time of year. There is still good numbers of bait pods scattered across the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and the creeks of Edgewater. The redfish , snook and tarpon have been chewing early and ten slacking off as the heat of the day turns on. The trout bite has been steady all day long with them moving to deeper edges when the day heats up. Look for very busy conditions this weekend in the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon area with the Fourth of July upon us.
