As we are officially in the dog days of summer here in New Smyrna Beach the fishing still continues to be good. The key to success has been getting on the water early. The bite has been slacking off by mid morning especially in Mosquito Lagoon. The water temps in the shallows have been reaching the mid 80’s by late morning causing the fish to slow movements. The pattern continues to be find the bait pods and the fish will follow. The redfish and trout have been hanging with the bait pods on the shallow flats early then moving to deeper water later in the morning. The snook, jacks and tarpon continue to patrol the deeper water around structure looking for a opportunity to feed. This pattern should continue for the next couple of months at least .
