The bite has continued to be good in the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters. We have had a little hiccup this week with a tropical storm skirting the coast of Florida but it never phased the bite. Look for the early morning to be the most productive. Trout and redfish can be found on the shallow bars and shoals throughout Mosquito Lagoon mixed in with the bait early in the mornings. As the sun gets up and starts to warm the waters they will move off the edges to deeper cooler water. They have been receptive to a variety of artificials and live bait as well. The tarpon have been all over the backwaters of New Smyrna along with the snook, trout and redfish as well. Just like the Lagoon look for the bite to be better early and then move to the deeper water later in the day. The baits of choice have been several from mullet, pin fish and shrimp to name a few along with several artificials like hard baits and soft plastics.
