The summer heat has definitely arrived here in New Smyrna Beach. With the summer weather comes the summer bite. Starting early and ending early is the key as the water temperatures rise quickly this time of year. With the hotter water temps the fish tend to slow down through mid day and get more active early and later as the temps start to cool. The bait has started to show up throughout the Mosquito Lagoon area giving our redfish, trout and snook plenty of food source. Targeting the shallow flats early with both live bait and artificials has been working well then moving to the deeper ledges as the morning moves on.
