Daytona, New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report by Capt. Patrick Rood
Bike Week is in full swing here in the Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach area. It seems as though they have hit the weather perfect for the bikers with highs in the 70’s all week long. The fish are going to start preparing for their spring time pattern. The redfish will start to split from the schools in search of new food source. Look for them along shorelines and bar edges in the New Smyrna Beach area and Mosquito Lagoon. The trout should start feeding a lot better as the water temps continue to warm. Look for the trout around the schools of bait throughout Mosquito Lagoon and in the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach. As the weather has been warmer the snook bite has been getting better in and around the Daytona Beach area. Live shrimp and artificials around structure has been working well. The redfish and trout have been chewing well on both live and artificial as well with soft plastics in a shrimp pattern working best. We still have a good sheepshead and black drum bite going on along with the nice occasional flounder coming boat side as well.
