The Fall bite continues to be good throughout the Central Florida waters. We have been bringing several different species boat side from redfish and trout to snook and jacks. The water levels are continuing to drop post Hurricane Ian. The water clarity is also continuing to get better day by day as well. Look for the pods of bait working the shallows and running the shorelines in backwaters of New Smyrna Beach. The fish can be found mixed in and around these bait pods. Live finger mullet and shrimp along with plugs and soft plastics have been working well. It looks like the weather will continue to be stable into next week allowing these fish to get back to there patterns.

Fall is definitely upon us with these much cooler mornings and speaking of cool next week looks like we could get a little cold blast. The fish are getting into their fall patterns and seem to be enjoying the cooler water temps here in the Central Florida area. We still have a little extra water throughout Mosquito Lagoon and the backwaters of New Smyrna but it seems to be getting back to normal levels. Look for the bait cruising down the edge of the shorelines and on top of the bars.
Redfish , trout , jacks and snook will all be in and around this bait. Plugs , shrimp and live finger mullet have been working well . The flounder have also started to move into the shallows from offshore ,soft plastics or mud minnows pinned on a jig head always works well. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 This past week has been trying to say the least. Hurricane Ian came to pay a visit to the state of Florida and definitely left his mark. It started on the west coast and worked its way across Central Florida dumping a astronomical amount of rain the whole time.
The bite has been a little bit of a challenge in the aftermath with a influx of fresh water flushing into the intracoastal by the gallons. It seems as though if you can find the bait and heavier salt concentration you will find the fish. Live bait and artificials have both been working well. We are transitioning into our fall time pattern over the next few weeks and it seems as the weather is starting to agree as well. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite has been pretty good throughout the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters. We are coming off the back side of the full moon along with a lot of rain this past week has created higher then usual water conditions. The higher water has pushed the redfish and trout up into the shallows of the Lagoon for a chance at new food source. The recent rain fall has definitely got the tarpon active throughout the intracoastal and inlets. It looks like we may have a little system trying to start something over Central FL the next few days so the bite may slow a little if it dumps as much rain as they are calling for. But we do live in FL and the forecast is never the same within a hour.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The fishing continues to be good throughout the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters. The bait has been plenty full both nearshore and inshore. The trout, redfish and snook have been chewing well in the backwaters of the New Smyrna area.
Look for the bait holding on the bars and shallow flats. Plugs and soft plastics have been working early then moving to live bait later in the mornings. The water has been heating up quickly in the Mosquito Lagoon so the early bite has been best. Looking for the pods of bait scattered across the flats has been the ticket. Both live and artificials have been working good in the lagoon but the bite has been slowing down by mid day due to the heat that wr have been experiencing throughout Central Fl. The beach bite has been pretty good as well if you can find the pods of bait. There has been schools of Bonita , Jacks , sharks and Tarpon all on the prowl. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite has been good the last couple of weeks with a couple days in there where we had to work for it. With the same weather pattern continuing into next week I see it continuing to stay good. The water clarity in and around the New Smyrna Beach area has been great this past month. Both the beach and the backwaters of New Smyrna have been producing bites in and around the bait pods. Live bait and artificials have both been working well early in the mornings.
As the sun gets higher and the day gets hotter the bite has started to slow down. The bite in Mosquito Lagoon has also been good in the early mornings. The fish can found in the shallows early and then moving off the flats to deeper ledges as the day moves on. The same as the New Smyrna area , targeting bait pods with live or artificial baits has been the key. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 We are coming off a full moon phase this past week and the bite has been good. We were starting early in the backwaters throughout the New Smyrna Beach area targeting trout and redfish in the shallows and as the day went on moving out to deeper water for snook and jacks.
We still have plenty of bait throughout the Mosquito Lagoon and New Smyrna Beach waters. Artificials have been working well early then moving to live bait as in shrimp, pin fish or mullet as the day gets warmer. We have had a little upwelling come in from offshore with cooler water temps which has seemed to push a lot of the tarpon around making them not in the eating mood. It looks as though moving into next week we may be getting back on our summer time track of Central Florida afternoon thunderstorms which will hopefully get them back in the routine of things. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 It seems as though we are in the dog days of summer here in the Central FL area with heat index’s in the 100’s this past week. Although temps have been hot it has not effected the fish as they have been chewing well. It has definitely been a morning bite throughout Mosquito Lagoon targeting trout and redfish in the shallows before the water heats up in the afternoon. The backwaters of New Smyrna Beach has been about the same as well with some of the deeper shorelines and creeks having a little cooler water temps. Artificials and live bait both have been working well for a variety of species like jacks, snook, redfish and trout. The weather forecast looks to be the same for the up coming week so I don’t see the bite slowing down.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The fishing in and around the New Smyrna Beach waters has been good and should not be slacking off anytime soon. We have had variety of fish both in the intracoastal and the backwaters of Mosquito Lagoon. Look for jacks , tarpon and several other species cruising in the bait pods throughout the intracoastal. The shallow water bite has also been good with several snook, redfish and trout coming boat side this past week. The bait has been plentiful from New Smyrna south through Mosquito Lagoon allowing easy meals for game fish. Live bait has been working well and matching the hatch has been even better. Plugs and spoons have also been getting the job done in the early mornings but has been slowing down on artificial as the water starts to warm later in the day. The forecast for the next week looks to be good so the bite should continue to be good.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues to be strong this past week with six days straight of inshore slams. The snook , redfish and trout have all been cooperating on the daily. The bait continues to flood the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and throughout Mosquito Lagoon. The artificial bite has been strong in the early morning and then as the sun gets higher the artificial bite starts to slack off. The live bait bite has been steady through the morning and by mid day the bite all together has been slowing down . We have also started getting our standard afternoon thunderstorms by late afternoon everyday as well. The bite should continue to be good as the extended forecast looks to be stable for next week.
