The bite continues to be good throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters south into Mosquito Lagoon. We have been bringing several species boat side like redfish, trout, snook and black drum. As Spring starts to transform into summer the bite will only continue to be good. Look for the redfish and trout in the shallows early mixed in with the schools of bait. The snook and black drum have been holding along the deeper shorelines and structure. Shrimp and artificials have both been working well and as the shrimp continue to run I believe the bite will continue as well. Looks like our weather pattern has started to become steady and do not believe we will have anymore cold fronts in our future.

The weather here in New Smyrna Beach has been outstanding this past week and looks like it will continue into the near future. We have had clear skies with highs in the 80’s just like a Florida post card. The bite continues to be good with several different species coming boat side this past week along with four days straight with a slam. The sight fishing has been good with scattered redfish, trout and black drum throughout Mosquito Lagoon. Further north into the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach it’s been more of deep water structure fishing. Both live bait and artificials have been working well so it’s really coming down to preference on which to use.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 According to the calendar Spring is upon us but the weather this past week had another idea. We had a mild cold front pass through Central Fl bringing cool and windy conditions these past few days. It has definitely made it challenging to fish but my clients have prevailed bringing several fish boat side . We have had some good luck around structure throughout the New Smyrna Beach area. The bite in Mosquito Lagoon has been good in between the bad weather days. Look for redfish, drum and trout holding on the shallow flats and bars mixed in with the bait. Live shrimp along with spoons and soft plastics have been working well. It looks as though we have some nice weather ahead of us which should increase the bite.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The fishing here in the New Smyrna Beach area has continued to be steady . As we are starting to enter Spring things are starting to change on the waters of Mosquito Lagoon. The water has started to warm and bait has started to move up on the shallow flats. The fish have started to spread out as well ,sometimes making it a little harder to pin down. It looks as though winter is not finished with us quite yet. They are calling for a cold blast this weekend bringing the lows into the possible 40’s . With the quick warm up they are calling for I do not think it will effect the fish patterns as the water temps should not dip that low. Live shrimp and finger mullet along with soft plastics have been the key this past week.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite has been good this past week in and around the New Smyrna Beach area. The redfish have been cooperating well and the trout have also decided to join in the fun. We still have a good number of black drum roaming the flats throughout south Mosquito Lagoon. This past week has been a little breezy making the water conditions a little murky for sight fishing. The winds do look to be subsiding over the next few days and will hopefully allow water conditions to clean back up. We have had some stronger tides this past week in the New Smyrna Beach area making it a little harder to net bait but if available finger mullet and mud minnows have been working well. Further south in Mosquito Lagoon the trout and redfish have been very receptive to soft plastics and spoons along with a few black drum on artificials as well.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 It looks as though the weather is on a warming trend over the next week or so throughout the Central FL area. The bite has continued to be good this past week and I look for it to continue through the up coming weeks. Look for the redfish, trout, snook and black drum around the oyster beds in the backwaters of the New Smyrna Beach area.If heading further south into Mosquito Lagoon look on the edges of the flats and in the pot holes for lingering trout and redfish. Artificials have been not working the best this past week but live shrimp and finger mullet have been doing the trick.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The cooler arctic blast continued through this past week making for some cold and windy days on the water. It definitely made it a little more challenging but we still prevailed on bringing fish boat side. Hopefully we are on a upswing of weather in the up coming weeks here in the New Smyrna Beach area . We have had some good numbers of redfish, trout and black drum throughout Mosquito Lagoon and surrounding waters. They have not been real receptive to artificial but the live bait bite has been good. Do to some cooler water temps they are a little sluggish so patience’s is the kill to seal the deal on the bite.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite has been pretty good here in the Central FL area. We have definitely had some up and down weather over the past couple of weeks sometimes making it challenging. The water levels throughout New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon have started to lower after a few days of shifting winds. The water temps are still pretty chilly and with highs in the fifties and sixties this week they will probably continue to be. The redfish , black drum and trout have been chewing well, the snook on the other hand are still looking for a heated blanket. Shrimp and finger mullet have been the go to baits lately but smaller soft plastics and spoons have also been doing the trick.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The weather has seemed to settle down a bit this week getting back into the 70’s during the day. The water temps are going to take a little while to get back to normal making for some lethargic fish for a few days. Patience and slower presentations will be the key for the next week or so. Shrimp and small soft plastics have been working well early and later in the day moving to a spoon or cut bait as the water starts to warm. Look for the bite to only get better as the week moves on. The water clarity is making for some great sight fishing for drum, redfish , trout and even snook. Lighter leader material will help out greater for those spookier fish in the shallows on a extremely clear day.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 This past week has been a whirlwind of weather conditions throughout Central FL. We have gone from highs in the mid 70’s to highs in the mid 50’s for a few days with rain. Needless to say the fish in and around the New Smyrna Beach area have been a little confused for a couple of days but are not getting in their winter time patterns. With the cooler water temperatures a extremely early start is not necessary as they are not getting active until it warms up a bit.
The redfish and trout have been holding on the shallow mud and sand bottom gathering warmth and feeding as the opportunity arises. The black drum have been in good numbers throughout Mosquito Lagoon schooling and feeding along the shell bottom. You can find snook holding along deeper shorelines in good numbers trying to fight off the cooler water temps but until water temps rise getting them to eat will be hard. Shrimp and artificials that look and act like shrimp have been the go to baits this past week. It looks like a warming trend is around the corner but only after another belt of cold hitting us this weekend. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 |
