The bite continues to be good here in the New Smyrna Beach area. With the recent weather change it has helped with eliminating the excess water we have had and looks to be cleaning it up a little as well.
We have been boating redfish, snook, trout and flounder throughout the backwaters and into Mosquito Lagoon. The water clarity is still not that great in the Lagoon but seems to be getting better with each day. The water temps have been cooling down quite a bit so slow retrieves on artificials and smaller live baits have been working well. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394

It seems as though we are starting to get our winter time weather. The recent cold fronts that have hit the New Smyrna Beach area has also brought a change in wind direction pushing a lot of this unwanted water out. With water levels and temps dropping look for the fish to find warmer water in the sand holes and mud flats. Live bait and cut bait has been producing a little bit better bite then artificial with the recent weather changes. Hopefully the water clarity will improve throughout the Mosquito Lagoon with these cooler water temperatures.
Capt Patrick Rood New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Charters www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 Our weather here in the New Smyrna Beach area has finally started to become stable. It looks like the weather will continue into next week making for good fishing conditions. We still have good numbers of bait throughout both New Smyrna and Mosquito Lagoon. We have been targeting several species from bluefish, jacks , redfish and snook. There has been trout , black drum and redfish hanging on shorelines in the Lagoon. They have been chewing well on live and cut bait but have also been receptive to artificial’s as well.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The fishing has continued to be steady throughout the New Smyrna Beach area. We had a little break of nice weather for a few days making for a little better bite. There is a cool front approaching FL which will lower air temps and unfortunately bring some windy conditions. Hopefully the cooler weather and future fronts will get the water conditions in Mosquito Lagoon back to normal. We still have bait scattered through out New Smyrna and Mosquito Lagoon. Due to the water clarity in the Lagoon at the moment live finger mullet, cut bait , plugs and spoons have been working the best. We have still been catching a variety of species from snook, jacks, redfish and trout to name a few.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 With the recent strong winds and high water fishing has been a challenge. The water clarity in Mosquito Lagoon is very dirty making sight fishing extremely hard. Throwing search baits has been a good way to produce a bite. Moving into the sheltered creeks of New Smyrna is a good way to avoid the wind. Throwing live shrimp and mullet on the leeward shorelines will also produce a bite. With a tropical storm passing to the west of us by the end of the week the weather should start to stable and the bite will improve.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The fishing still continues to be good with several redfish coming boat side this past week. We did finally get some cooler weather which unfortunately brought along high winds for a few days. After these winds subside the bight should continue to be good. Look for the pods of bait throughout New Smyrna Beach and the Mosquito Lagoon. I like to target the bait pods with both artificial and live bait. The trout, jacks , snook and redfish have been in or near the bait the last couple of weeks and are always looking for a easy meal. It looks as though the weather will stable out toward the end of the week and the bite should only get better.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite still continues to be good throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters. We have a influx of bait fish along the beach and through Mosquito Lagoon making for a continuous food supply. The jacks, blue fish, snook and redfish have been enjoying the unlimited food source. As long as the weather continues to be stable I believe the bite will continue to be good. We are still seeing some good numbers of trout and black drum in the shallows of the Lagoon but unfortunately with the influx of water we had the past couple of weeks the clarity is not so good.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 We are back in some kind of crazy weather pattern this past week. We have had a lot of wind and rain over the past few days bringing the water levels extremely high in Mosquito Lagoon at the moment. With strong northeast winds it has also made for strong push of water in the New Smyrna Beach area as well. The fish are definitely spread out quite a bit with the influx of water but when you find them they are eating well. Live bait and cut bait pitches along shorelines have been working well for redfish, snook and trout. We have also had a large amount of jacks and bluefish located throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters and are always fun to catch on artificial’s like plugs and spoons. Hopefully the winds will subside in the next couple days and the water will start to get back to normal.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite has continued to be good throughout the New Smyrna Beach area. We have had a good amount of baitfish scattered from Mosquito Lagoon north to New Smyrna. There is a variety of species in and around the baitfish this time of year. Look for the bait pods and focus on fishing in and around them with either live or artificial baits. The bait pods are holding trout, jacks, bluefish, tarpon and redfish right now and all are eager to eat. It looks like the weather will be stable for the next few days or so allowing the bite to continue.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The weather has been nasty this past week with wind and rain for three days straight across the New Smyrna Beach area. The good news is the fish are still chewing well. We do have a influx of water throughout Mosquito Lagoon making water levels higher than usual. The water clarity is also a little tainted as well making sight fishing a little difficult. We do have a decent amount of bait moving through the area which is allowing our redfish, trout, snook, flounder and several other species chew well. Spoons, twitch baits , soft plastics and live bait have been producing well both in New Smyrna and south throughout the Lagoon. Look for the weather to stable out the next few days and the bite continue to stay steady.
