The fishing continues to be good throughout the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters. The bait has been plenty full both nearshore and inshore. The trout, redfish and snook have been chewing well in the backwaters of the New Smyrna area.
Look for the bait holding on the bars and shallow flats. Plugs and soft plastics have been working early then moving to live bait later in the mornings. The water has been heating up quickly in the Mosquito Lagoon so the early bite has been best. Looking for the pods of bait scattered across the flats has been the ticket.
Both live and artificials have been working good in the lagoon but the bite has been slowing down by mid day due to the heat that wr have been experiencing throughout Central Fl. The beach bite has been pretty good as well if you can find the pods of bait. There has been schools of Bonita , Jacks , sharks and Tarpon all on the prowl.
