The weather has been abnormally warmer than usual for this time of year throughout the Central Fl area. With the warmer weather also brings warmer water temps in the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon backwaters. The warmer water temps have made for some more active fish cruising the flats and bars looking for a easy meal. The redfish, black drum, snook, trout and mangrove snapper have all been chewing well. Look for the mangroves and snook holding around structure and shorelines as the drum, redfish and trout have been cruising the flats of Mosquito Lagoon looking for easy meals . Artificials have been working but the live bait has been the key bait lately. Anything from live shrimp, finger mullet and pin fish for the snook, mangroves and trout. The redfish and black drum have been preferring the crab and shrimp for the most part. Water clarity has been good throughout the Lagoon making the sight fishing fun for the trout, redfish and black drum when the wind wants to cooperate to allow it. With the holidays in sight this next week and the weather looking warm and nice I foresee a lot of traffic on the water.
Happy Holidays and a New Year!
