We are coming off a full moon phase this past week and the bite has been good. We were starting early in the backwaters throughout the New Smyrna Beach area targeting trout and redfish in the shallows and as the day went on moving out to deeper water for snook and jacks.
We still have plenty of bait throughout the Mosquito Lagoon and New Smyrna Beach waters. Artificials have been working well early then moving to live bait as in shrimp, pin fish or mullet as the day gets warmer. We have had a little upwelling come in from offshore with cooler water temps which has seemed to push a lot of the tarpon around making them not in the eating mood.
It looks as though moving into next week we may be getting back on our summer time track of Central Florida afternoon thunderstorms which will hopefully get them back in the routine of things.
