New Smyrna Beach,Mosquito Lagoon and Daytona Beach Fishing Report
If you can manage to get out on the water in between cold fronts then the fish are there to be caught. It just seems as though the cold fronts have not stopped hitting us since the beginning of winter. The creeks of New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater area have had good numbers of redfish, black drum and trout along with flounder in the mix. I have been targeting all these species with both artificial and live bait over the last few weeks. I like to use both ADL Spoons and a veraity of soft plastics with a very slow retrieve. They are also really receptive to live and cut bait like finger mullet and shrimp, fish these bait just like you would the artificals in a very slow manor. Mosquito lagoon and Indian River lagoon have been getting better as the winter has progressed . With gin clear water through out both lagoon systems the sight fishing has been on fire. I have been seeing schools of redfish into the hundreds along with the black drum. The trout bite has been good as well with alot of over 5lb trout coming boat side. Both artificial and live bait will get the job done. I have been throwing a soft plastic in a shrimp color or a live shrimp is even better. Another thing to keep in mind with the extremly clear water is stealthiness take your time and be patience the shot will fall into place for that fish of a lifetime. Good luck and be safe !
