The bite is still holding strong throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. We have been continuing to good numbers of trout and redfish boat side along with the occasional snook that wants to cooperate . The bait pods have also been plentiful making for great targets early in the morning for a trout or redfish bite. As the sun gets higher the bait has been moving a little deeper and the fish have been following. Targeting the pot holes in the deeper water has been working well with both artificial and live baits. The extended forecast looks like we will be getting warmer weather along with the summer time afternoon showers.

The weather has been awesome this past week with highs in the mid 80’s and clear skies. The fishing continues to be good throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters along with Mosquito Lagoon. The redfish have been holding in the shallows mixed in with the bait pods . The trout can be found shallow early ten moving off the flats as the sun starts to get bigger in the sky. Looking at the ten day forecast we may be getting some moisture later in the week but other than that it looks to continue to be stable . Bait has been plentiful on the flats with live finger mullet working well along with artificials as well.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 We have definitely entered our early summer time pattern here in the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach. Look for the bait to be plentiful throughout the flats and the fish not too far. Working plugs and spoons early in the morning has been creating and steady bite then moving to soft plastics later in the day .live finger mullet and cut bait have also been working well on both the redfish and trout with a little patience. The weather looks to be very stable for the upcoming week which should just secure the bite.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 We have had a little hiccup in the weather this past week with some serious showers. The showers have not affected the bite at all throughout the New Smyrna Beach area. The bait pods continue to cover the flats making for some great fishing . We have been throwing everything from plugs and soft plastics to live finger mullet and cut bait. We have been bringing several species boat side from redfish , trout and jacks to snook and the occasional flounder. This coming weeks weather looks to be great and by the end of the week it’s calling for highs in the mid80’s .
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues to be steady throughout the waters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. The bait has been plentiful scattered both in the backwaters and on the flats. Look for the trout, redfish and snook in and around the bait pods. Both artificial and live bait have been working well.
Plugs and spoons early then moving to soft plastics backed up by some some live shrimp or mullet as well. The wind has definitely been a force to play with this past week but it has also allowed the fish to not be on edge making it easier to get shots on them. The weather looks to be good for the most part this up coming week which should just reassure the bite. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The little last bit of winter still wants to hang around the Central FL area for another week. This past weekend was when the front moved through creating cooler temps and windy conditions. Before the front the bite was excellent throughout the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters and will continue as the days warm this week.
We have been targeting several species from black drum , redfish , trout , snook and jacks. Both artificial’s and live bait have been working well . The smaller presentations have been working better with the cooler water temps and clear skies. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The past couple of weeks have been chamber of commerce kinda days here in Central Florida. We have had highs in the 80’s and clear blue skies but unfortunately you must have a little bad to appreciate the good. We have had a small front come through over the weekend into Monday bringing some rain and wind.
The bite was good before the front and slowing down a bit over the weekend as the front moved through they should get right back on track as this weather moves out. The redfish, drum , snook and trout have all been chewing well from New Smyrna South through Mosquito Lagoon. Shrimp, mullet and pin fish have been working well for live bait and spoons , soft plastics and plugs for the artificial bite. The bite should only continue to get better as we move into spring followed by summer. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The waters throughout the New Smyrna Beach area have been alive with activity this past week. My clients have been boating redfish, trout and black drum several different ways. We have caught them along the deeper shorelines in the backwaters of New Smyrna and also sight fishing them in the shallows of Mosquito Lagoon. The weather has been consistent making for a good bite and looks to continue through the weekend. Both artificial and live bait have been working well . Targeting the bait pods have been working well both on the flats and along the bars.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The weather and the fishing have been really good this past week throughout the waters of New Smyrna Beach. Looking at the extended forecast there really is no deviation from the current weather pattern allowing these fish to get set into a steady eating pattern.
The redfish and black drum have been chewing well in the shallows of Mosquito Lagoon where as the trout and snook can be found a little deeper. Live bait and artificials have both been working well . Live shrimp , finger mullet and mud minnows have been getting the job done for live bait. Where as soft plastics and ADL spoons have been the go to’s for artificials. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues to be good throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and south into Mosquito Lagoon. The water level has lowered quite a bit bringing a lot of the fish out of the ditches and on to the flats into schools and small groups.
We have been targeting black drum, redfish , snook and trout this past week and the weather has been great for it. Clear skies and clean water has produced the perfect storm of a bite. February is usually always a great month to sight fish and by the looks of it , I do not think it’s going to disappoint this year as well as we have been on a great bite so far.
