The weather may have cooled off just a little but that bite still seems to be hot . We are continuing to boat several different species trout and redfish to snook and black drum. The bait is still in great numbers throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and south into Mosquito Lagoon. The bite still seems to be slowing down by mid day due to the heat but the mornings have been the ticket. Look for the large bait pods and the fish will be near by . We have also had some good numbers of fish shallow up on the flats milling around early as well. Live bait and soft plastics have been working well along with a gold spoon . The weather looks good through the week so I foresee the bite continuing.

Even after our one day of hurricane conditions here on the East Coast the bite continues strong throughout New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. The bait continues to be covering the flats and shorelines making for great cover and opportunities for game fish. Plugs and soft plastics have been working well early morning along with live bait as well. Target the edges of the bait pods whether it’s artificial or live bait and the bites will come. We have been boating all different species like redfish, trout, black drum , jacks and snook just to mention a few. The weather looks to be good for the extended forecast which means the bite should only continue to be good.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The heat has continued to be relentless this past week but has not affected the bite at all. We have been having a steady bite from New Smyrna Beach south throughout the Mosquito Lagoon. Early starts and early finishes have been the key. Look for the bait hanging on the flats and shorelines and the fish will not be far. Plugs and spoons have been working early but live bait has been a little better bite. It looks like we have some possible weather working into Central Florida next week . If it does make its way , it may actually help to cool the temps down and continue the bite.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues in the New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach waters. We have been targeting several different species from redfish and trout to snook and black drum. Although the temperatures have been pretty toasty this past week it hasn’t stopped the bite. Both artificial’s and live bait have been working well especially early morning. By mid morning moving over to live bait has been the ticket as the fish start to move to deeper water off the flats.
We still have plenty of bait scattered through Mosquito Lagoon and the backwaters of New Smyrna which continues to hold fish in the area . Targeting the bait pods early has been successful for both redfish and trout. The up coming week looks to be the same weather pattern as what we have had so the bite should continue to be strong . Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 We are definitely in a summer heat wave here in the Central FL area with daily highs in the mid to upper 90’s. The water temps have increased as well making the bite a little slower due to the warmer waters . That does not mean the bite has stopped we just have to focus on the cooler parts of the days Luke the early mornings or late evenings. The bait is still plentiful throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters south into Mosquito Lagoon. Live bait has been the choice the past couple of weeks but slow worked artificials will produce a bite as well. We have been targeting redfish, snook , trout and the occasional tarpon when they want to cooperate . It looks like we could have our afternoon showers back in the forecast starting next week which will help out on the cool down both in the air and water temperatures.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 There has been some extremely hot days this past week but that heat has not affected the bite one bit. I will say we have been wrapping up by mid day but that morning bite has been great. The bait continues to be plentiful throughout Mosquito Lagoon and the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach allowing the trout and redfish ample food source. The trout and redfish have not been the only species roaming the waters , jacks , snook and tarpon have all been in the mix these past couple weeks. The forecast for next week looks to be the same which should reassure the bite to continue. Live bait has been working a little better than artificial but fish have been caught on both. Early morning and late evening as the water temps are cooler has been the key.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 This bite throughout New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon continues to be strong. We have been boating great numbers of nice trout and redfish along with snook in the mix as well. The bait continues to be in thick throughout the backwaters and Mosquito Lagoon. Getting on the water early has definitely been the trick as the bite starts to fade as the heat increases. Both artificial’s and live bait have been producing bites. The summer time pattern is in full affect with showers arriving by mid day so once again early starts are the key.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 As these afternoon thunderstorms continue to flare up from New Smyrna Beach south through Mosquito Lagoon getting out early has been the trick. The bite has definitely been an earlier bite and tapering off by mid day. The bait continues to be holding in great numbers throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters . Both artificial’s and live bait have been working well.
Plugs and soft plastics have been producing some great trout and snook bites early then moving over to spoons and flukes later in the morning for redfish. Live bait like shrimp , mullet and pin fish have all been working well to bring several different species boat side. It looks as though this weather pattern of afternoon storms is here to stay for a while so focusing on the morning bite is best. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues to be strong throughout the New Smyrna Beach back waters and Mosquito Lagoon. We have been boating several different species from snook , black drum ,trout and redfish just to mention a few . They have been eating in the mornings and then picking back up in the early evenings as the water temps are cooler at these times. They are still holding to the summer time pattern , look for the bait in the shallows early then moving to the deeper edges of the flats as the sun continues to get higher.
Plugs , spoons and soft plastics have been working but live bait has definitely been a little more receptive. The weather looks to be good for the rest of the week with clear in the mornings and afternoon showers toward the evenings. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues to be strong throughout the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters. Even though it seems like we have been living on the face of the sun this past week , with heat index over 100 it has definitely not effected the fish. It has although made them chew early and start slacking off by mid morning as the heat starts up.
The bait pods are still in great numbers throughout the backwaters and where there’s bait the fish can be found. Plugs and soft plastics early have been working well then moving over to live bait or spoons to finish out the morning. It looks as though we are now into our summer time pattern and the fish will continue to chew, if you want a constant bent rod this is the time to be out there. The forecast looks good for the up coming week with clear skies early and possible afternoon thunderstorms to cool the evening. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 |
