As these afternoon thunderstorms continue to flare up from New Smyrna Beach south through Mosquito Lagoon getting out early has been the trick. The bite has definitely been an earlier bite and tapering off by mid day. The bait continues to be holding in great numbers throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters . Both artificial’s and live bait have been working well.
Plugs and soft plastics have been producing some great trout and snook bites early then moving over to spoons and flukes later in the morning for redfish. Live bait like shrimp , mullet and pin fish have all been working well to bring several different species boat side. It looks as though this weather pattern of afternoon storms is here to stay for a while so focusing on the morning bite is best. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394

The bite continues to be strong throughout the New Smyrna Beach back waters and Mosquito Lagoon. We have been boating several different species from snook , black drum ,trout and redfish just to mention a few . They have been eating in the mornings and then picking back up in the early evenings as the water temps are cooler at these times. They are still holding to the summer time pattern , look for the bait in the shallows early then moving to the deeper edges of the flats as the sun continues to get higher.
Plugs , spoons and soft plastics have been working but live bait has definitely been a little more receptive. The weather looks to be good for the rest of the week with clear in the mornings and afternoon showers toward the evenings. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues to be strong throughout the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters. Even though it seems like we have been living on the face of the sun this past week , with heat index over 100 it has definitely not effected the fish. It has although made them chew early and start slacking off by mid morning as the heat starts up.
The bait pods are still in great numbers throughout the backwaters and where there’s bait the fish can be found. Plugs and soft plastics early have been working well then moving over to live bait or spoons to finish out the morning. It looks as though we are now into our summer time pattern and the fish will continue to chew, if you want a constant bent rod this is the time to be out there. The forecast looks good for the up coming week with clear skies early and possible afternoon thunderstorms to cool the evening. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 I am glad to see a light at the end of the tunnel with all the rain we have received this past week. The fish did not seem to be bothered but it did make for close calls with storms. It did however bring an influx of water to the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon area but seems to be residing as fast as it arrived.
The bite seems to be steady through the morning and then teetering off as the sun gets higher in the sky. The flats have had a lot of bait scattered with a mixture of fish holding in and around the bait pods. Live bait and artificials have been working well and by the looks of the five day forecast the weather should be holding stable for a while. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The summer time weather has been getting a little active this past week with a lot of thunderstorms through the New Smyrna Beach area. It looks as though we are starting to get into an afternoon storm kind of pattern making for a good evening cool down. But with all this extra rain fall it has increased the water levels throughout Mosquito Lagoon but seems to have not affected the the bite. We are still boating several different species from redfish , trout , snook and black drum just to mention a few. The artificial and live bait bite have both been good . Throwing plugs early before the sunrise has been causing strikes on the surface then moving to a subsurface or live bait later in the morning has been working well. The weather looks to be good this upcoming week and the bite should continue to stay steady.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The weather has been hot this past week and the fishing as well. We have been boating a variety of species like redfish, trout and snook . The bait continues to be holding in the back waters of New Smyrna Beach stretching south through Mosquito Lagoon.
Plugs and artificial have been working well early in the morning then moving to live bait as the sun gets higher in the sky. It seems as though we have set in on our summer time pattern with high temperatures in the mid day bringing in afternoon showers and thunderstorms. The weather looks to be about the same into next week hit with afternoon storms so the morning bite will be the best. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite is still holding strong throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. We have been continuing to good numbers of trout and redfish boat side along with the occasional snook that wants to cooperate . The bait pods have also been plentiful making for great targets early in the morning for a trout or redfish bite. As the sun gets higher the bait has been moving a little deeper and the fish have been following. Targeting the pot holes in the deeper water has been working well with both artificial and live baits. The extended forecast looks like we will be getting warmer weather along with the summer time afternoon showers.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 This past Memorial Day Weekend was definitely challenging with the massive influx of people on the water but it did not stop the fish from eating. We did get a little extra water pushed into the New Smyrna Beach backwaters with a strong NE wind for a few days. The winds have shifted back to the West Southwest and water levels are starting to get back to normal.
The bait continues to be plentiful throughout Mosquito Lagoon and the fish can still be found in and around the bait. Plugs have been working well early in the morning then moving to spoons, plastics and live bait as the sun gets higher. It looks like we have some afternoon storms moving into the area later in the week but hopefully will not be causing any issues for a morning session. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 We have started to get our summer time afternoon thunderstorms this past week bringing some much needed rain to the New Smyrna Beach area. The rain has definitely not affected the bite as we are still boating nice trout and redfish throughout the Mosquito Lagoon waters. We continue to have large amounts of bait spread out across the flats and along the shorelines.
Look for the bait pods holding shallow in the early mornings and then move with the bait to deeper water as the sun starts to get higher. Plugs, spoons and soft plastics along with a variety of live bait have all been working well. The weather looks good going into the weekend which should just continue the awesome bite. Capt Patrick Rood The weather has been awesome this past week with highs in the mid 80’s and clear skies. The fishing continues to be good throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters along with Mosquito Lagoon. The redfish have been holding in the shallows mixed in with the bait pods . The trout can be found shallow early ten moving off the flats as the sun starts to get bigger in the sky. Looking at the ten day forecast we may be getting some moisture later in the week but other than that it looks to continue to be stable . Bait has been plentiful on the flats with live finger mullet working well along with artificials as well.
