The bite has been a little inconsistent this past week . We still have an influx of fresh water draining into the intracoastal and Mosquito Lagoon . The bait is still plentiful throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. The fish are still there but just a little scattered so you have to put your time in to locate them , but they are definitely chewing when you find them. They have been receptive to both live bait and artificials .
If we can get a cool front to move through in the next week or so it will really get these fish fired up as of right now they’re still kinda in limbo of a summer time pattern or a Fall pattern. The weather looks to be the same into the weekend but we have a little chance of a front next week. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394

We have definitely had some strange weather this first part of October. Central Florida gets hammered by Hurricane Milton causing a major inconvenience with flooding , trees down and power outages across the state. Then immediately after Milton the first cold front of the season dipped into Central Florida as well. Fortunately we were only down for a couple of days here at Spot N Tail Charters .
We hit the water where we left off before the storm with fish in a little different pattern but did not take long to get back on them. The bait is plentiful through out New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. look for the pods of bait holding on the grass and bars and the fish will not be far. Live bait and artificials have both been working well these past few days. The weather looks to be stable for the upcoming week making for a good time on the water. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 This week has been a let’s prepare for Hurricane Milton to come and whip our butts here in FL. Prior to Milton showing the bite was good and I foresee the bite being just as good after the storm passes. Typically, the fish chew really well after large storms like hurricanes and tropical storms as long as you can get out on the water safely.
I pray for the west coast of Florida as they are taking it on the chin from a category 4 hurricane but just like we always do here in Florida we will build back even better. The great news is that the weather looks great after the passing of Milton which will make more comfortable fishing weather. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues to be strong through out the waters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. We still have great numbers of bait fish scattered near shore and inshore providing a food source for all the game fish. Look for schools of bait holding on and around the shell beds to the north and grass flats to the south.
Targeting the bait schools will produce the bites from red fish and trout to snook and jacks . They have been chewing well in live bait like pin fish and finger mullet but the artificial has also been creating bite as well. It looks as though we have a low pressure moving in later this week into the weekend so that should be really good just before it arrives. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 |
