The bite throughout the Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach waters continues to be strong as we approach the end to August. We have been boating several different species both in the shallows of Mosquito Lagoon and also throughout the Intracoastal. The bait pods have really started to move inshore and along the beach making a great food source for jacks , tarpon , snook and other game species. The redfish bite and trout bite has been good across the shallows with the bait covering the grass flats look for the game fish to be mixed in as well . Plugs , spoons and soft plastics have all been working well along with a variety of live baits . With the recent afternoon showers the water temps have cooled down a bit which has also secured the recent bite. Look for the same weather pattern to continue into next week.

The waters around New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon have been alive with bait fish and game fish of all kinds. The deeper water of the Intracoastal water way through Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach has been holding several species like jacks , tarpon , snook and mangroves to mention a few. Heading further south into Mosquito Lagoon the targeted species have been black drum , redfish and trout all scattered across the shallow flats.
The weather has definitely been hot but so has the bite . It looks as though we will continue the warm trend with occasional afternoon storms into next week. Early starts have been working well as the bite has been slowing a bit by mid day . They have been chewing both artificials and live bait well but later in the morning seems as though live bait has been working a little better. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The weather conditions continue to be hot throughout Central Florida with heat advisory scattered . Fortunately the bite has been just as hot with several different species coming boat side . We are still catching good numbers of snook , jacks and trout throughout the Intracoastal from Daytona Beach south into New Smyrna Beach . The bait continues to be spread out along the shorelines and the fish are near by.
As you head further south into Mosquito Lagoon the flats are filled with life from all kinds of bait fish and just like to the north the game fish are near by . The redfish and trout have been shallow early then following the bait later as they start to move to the edges . Both artificials and live baits have doing well . It looks as though we will have the same weather pattern across Central Fl through the weekend so I do not see a change in the bite pattern for the week. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The recent rain fall has been a hidden blessing throughout the Central Florida Backwaters this past week . The rain has actually cooled the shallow waters of Mosquito Lagoon along with the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach making the fish more active though the day. The snook ,jacks and tarpon have been pretty active in the intracoastal from Daytona Beach south to Mosquito Lagoon focusing on the bait pods along the structure and deeper edges. Moving south into New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon you can find a great trout , redfish and black drum bite on the shallow flats. Live bait and artificials have been working well especially with the recent water cool down. It looks as though we will continue with the occasional afternoon rain through next which will continue to cool down the shallows.
