We have started to get a little rain here in the New Smyrna Beach area which has definitely helped our drought conditions. The recent rains and wind has also stirred the waters up from Daytona Beach south through Mosquito Lagoon making for some dirtier conditions. With the dirtier conditions the sight fishing has not been great but the structure fishing has made up for it . Focusing on bars , points and ledges have been providing a great bite . Live bait and artificials have both been working great with the breezy , dirty conditions. It looks as the weather will start to settle down toward the end of the week and into next week.

The New Smyrna Beach waters have been filled with life this past week . From Daytona Beach south through Mosquito Lagoon the life has been very vibrant with shrimp , finger mullet and all the predators chasing them . The weather has been great with a nice breeze and mostly clear skies making for some great catching. We have been catching on both live bait and artificials with a mix bag coming boat side. The trout , jacks and redfish have been hanging in and around the pods of bait throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna and Mosquito Lagoon. The snook and tarpon have been hanging in the deeper water taking advantage of the last little shrimp run . The weather looks to be good for the up coming holiday week and the fish should be ready to party as well.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 New Smyrna Beach had received a little taste of some Summer weather this past week and I will say it got toasty. The fish did not seem to mind the hotter temps as the bite has still continued to be strong throughout the waters of Daytona Beach south to Mosquito Lagoon. The bait has also started to make an appearance with good numbers of mullet on the flats and throughout the bays of New Smyrna Beach. The redfish , trout , black drum and snook have all been chewing well . Shrimp , cut bait and pinfish have been working well along with soft plastics , plugs and spoons for artificial’s . The weather looks to be stable and warm moving into the weekend so the bite should only continue to increase.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The recent weather throughout New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon has been a blessing this past week but the summer heat up is upon us . With the summer heat comes a heat up in fishing action as well and I can already see the fish preparing for their summer time patterns. The bite has been good from the Intracoastal of Daytona Beach with great numbers of jacks , trout and other species mixed in with the bait pods chewing well . Then as you move south into the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon the redfish , black drum and trout have been fired up as well . The weather looks to be on a warming trend moving into next week and securing the already good bite.
Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 Sprung time in the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach is the place to be . The fish have been happy with several different species coming boat side this past week along with a few slams as well . Mosquito Lagoon has been producing some great sight fishing for both black drum and redfish when the weather decides to cooperate. The creeks and the flats are showing great signs of life with bait fish and where’s there’s bait fish you will find game fish. I thought we were finished with the cold fronts for the year but it seems as though there may be one dipping down late this week early next week . With that being said the weather looks pretty good through Saturday and the fish are definitely chewing.
