This recent cold front moving through Central FL has fired these fish up again. We have definitely got some cooler temperatures this week along with a shift in the wind direction lowering the water levels though out New Smyrna beach and Mosquito Lagoon.
With the lower cooler water look for the fish to be holding in the sand holes and on top the dark mud. Smaller baits like soft plastics , spoons , shrimp and finger mullet have been working well. This weather pattern looks to be here into the weekend making for some good fishing. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394

It looks like we have light at the end of our crazy weather tunnel this week. We will be getting on a warm trend throughout Central FL starting this week which will continue to make these fish active. The water clarity has been great throughout Mosquito Lagoon making for some great sight fishing.
The snook and trout are still holding in the deeper water with the cooler water temps but the black drum and redfish can be found milling up in the shallows. Shrimp , cut bait and live finger mullet have been working well but spoons and soft plastics have been getting ate too. I’m looking forward to a little warmer days and a continued great bite. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 We have had a little crazy weather pattern to start the new year and looks like it could continue into next week. Even with the crazy weather the fish have not stopped chewing as a matter of fact they have been very happy. The bait of choice has been live shrimp but cut bait and mullet have been working as well. Spoons and soft plastics will also trigger a bite but just need a slower then usual retrieval.
The water clarity throughout New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito lagoon has been great and will only continue to be through winter. Look for the fish to be in and around the bait pods either on the shallow flats or deeper holes. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 With the approaching cold front this week the weather will be turning a little nasty with some rain and strong winds. But after the clearing of the wind and rain will bring in some cooler stable conditions making for a great bite. Look for the fish to be holding on the mud and sand bottoms throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon.
Depending on the water temperatures after this front they maybe a little sluggish early so cut bait and shrimp are always a good choice along with small soft plastics worked extremely slow . Don’t let the cooler temperatures scare you away this time of year makes for some of the best fishing. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 Although the weather has been a little wild this past week with some wind and rain it has not effected the bite. The bite continues to be strong throughout the waters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. Look for the redfish, trout and black drum to be on the search for food over the next week as we start a warming trend.
These windy conditions have stirred the bottom and creating a new food source for the fish to take advantage of. Shrimp, mullet and artificials have all been working well. Looks like we will have some stable weather for the next few days so look for the fishing to get even better. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite continues to be strong this past week and with the approaching cold front this week it will only get better. The bait continues to be located on the flats and backwaters of New Smyrna Beach which has made a great location for the trout and redfish to hang out.
The sight fishing has also been good throughout Mosquito Lagoon in between the windy days this past week. Shrimp have been working well for sight fishing black drum along with the redfish as well. Cut bait and mullet has also been doing the trick along with artificials like plugs, spoons and soft plastics. Once again after this upcoming front this week the bite should only get better. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The weather that we had recently received here in the Central Florida area was a lot of water . With the extreme amount of water brought flooding a lot with higher water conditions throughout New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. Even though we have higher than normal water conditions at the moment it has not effected the bite.
The redfish and trout have been chewing well on both artificial and bait. With the higher water brings new feeding opportunities for the fish so look in the areas that they usually can not reach . It looks as though the weather will be stable for the upcoming week making for a good bite. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 Looks as though we are getting started on our winter time weather pattern. We have received our first cool front bringing strong winds and cooler temperatures with it. As these fronts start to frequent the area the fish will start to go into their winter time patterns as well. Usually the day off and one to two days after the front the wind blows pretty good and lays down making for some great conditions until the next passing front. As the water temps start to lower the fish tend to get really active making for a great bite.
The redfish , trout and snook have all been chewing well on both artificial and live bait. Looking for the schools of bait has been the trick. Here lately the fish have been mixed in with the bait . It looks like the windy conditions will start to subside by the end of the weekend making for some great fishing conditions. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The weather has been a little crazy here in Central FL from hot to cool to calm and to windy all with in a week and a half. It has not effected the bite just how to catch them and where to find them. Plugs, spoons and live finger mullet have been working well.
We currently have an influx of water throughout the New Smyrna Beach backwaters and Mosquito Lagoon area which has the fish more spread out. This is where the plugs and spoons work great for a search bait as well as the finger mullet. It looks like we will be getting a cool front coming in over the weekend which will shift the winds again. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 The bite throughout the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters has been good this past week both before and after our cool front. We continue to have a good number of bait holding on the flats and the backwaters making for easy meals for our game fish.
Spoons , plugs and soft plastics have all been working well along with finger mullet and shrimp for live bait. It looks like we are on a warming trend heading into the latter part of the week which will continue to increase the bite. Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386)566-1394 |
